Migrating 3CX configurations from Windows server 2008r2 to Windows 2016

Hello everyone,

I am new to the 3CX system and was wondering if it's possible to migrate my current 3CX configuration setup on my physical Windows 2008r2 server and migrate the entire phone system to a virtual Windows 2016 server. Will the services be affected?

Hi Brandon,

I'm assuming for these purposes that the physical and virtual server are on the same network. To minimize downtime, you can backup your physical server's PBX and power it down. After you power down the physical server, assign its IP to the new virtual server, then restore the downloaded 3CX backup on the virtual server.

You should not need to reconfigure your devices or firewall this way, and the downtime will be minimal since your FQDN, Firewall, and devices will be able to reach the virtual server

So what I am understanding is the full backup contains all the previous configurations then. It will have the same IP as the previous server.

Just to be celar, the backup does not contain IP addresses. It contains the 3CX configuration. IP addresses are handled at the OS level.

Are you refering to the IP of the phones?

I wasn't sure if you thought that restoring the 3CX backup was going to change the IP address of the computer/VM you were restoring to (it's not). You need to make sure the OS has the correct IP information before installing/restoring.
