Hello,

I'm having trouble upgrading to the v16.

Some of my users reported problems using the 3CX app on their phones... problems related to the fact that it was not working at all because we are on a v15.5 and the app requires a v16 to function properly.

For now we have a v15.5 Perpetual PRO 16 with valid maintenance - installed with PBX express on OVH (running on debian 8 it seems).
I have auto update enabled for some time and expected the v16 to be automatically installed at some point.

So I checked the update page on the 3CX management console but can only find a beta for a v15.5 (out of date 15.5.12663.5).

I'm not sure what I am supposed to do to be able to have the option to update to v16.
Should I use the PBX Express with a backup - will it be already updated to the latest version after installation?
Or should I find a way to enable the update directly from the management console? But how?
Am I missing something?

Thank you for your help.

If you used the 3CX ISO you should be able to Upgrade to Update 6 and then you should be prompted for the OS upgrade to Debian 9 and then be able to upgrade to v16. Upgrading to Update 6 is manual and can be done here:

https://www.3cx.com/blog/news/pbx-upgrade-update-6/

Then everything else should be via the web interface.

That being said, I'd upgrade to Update 6, take a backup and nuke the box/VM and do a fresh Debian 9/v16 install myself.

I ended up launching a new PBX Express install using a fresh backup because I was unable to get my hands on a superuser account to upgrade the OS.

Now everything is up to date and working, except for some firewall ports with "port full cone test failed" starting at port 10600.. and some softphones not receiving calls but able to start them...
But it's another story.

Thanks for the help!

Hi @Immo9

We recommend to use a V15.5SP6 backup when installing V16.

The ports have increased since your SP4 edition so you will need to adjust accordingly
https://www.3cx.com/docs/ports/

Since you are on V16 you will have to update your mobile and desktop clients to the latest versions and then reprovision them to make sure they are up to date.

You can also give the Webclient a spin and see how you like it, we will be adding all our new features there as development continues in the future.

Hi again,
Thanks for the help!

Can I see what an iptable from a default V16 install is supposed to look like?
I added udp ports from 9000 to 10999 but it look like it's not sufficient..

it is the AWS firewall-config you need to mod as shown in the guide. The IP tables of the OS are managed by the installer of the PBX

Alright, thanks a lot!

You referenced an AWS firewall-config, I suspect it's for Amazon based cloud. I'm using OVH.
I just added the rules in the OVH instance directly and now the firewall tester is very happy (technical term).

I was not able to have the backup from a SP6 but only from the SP4.
Do you think there may be other problems ? (I had to regenerate every extensions for secure passwords for example).

Thanks again

You should be fine, but we still recommend to take a backup from the latest supported version of V15.5 before moving to V16 for maximum compatibility.

For OVH you can also deploy using PBX Express which takes care of the firewall, and as for the IP table that will also be taken care of by the 3CX installer that PBX Express runs.
