Opinion on Android based phones like Yealink T58A

Hello,

I'm looking for a high-end IP phone, and I like the T58A a lot.
I just wanted to know the general opinion since it's Android based, so it's quite different from the other phones..
I'm worried about support and updates.

thank you, I have no doubt that 3CX will support the phone in the long term!

I was worried about the Android updates for the phone..
I'm no expert in the Android ecosystem, I just know that regular smartphones at one point stop receiving updates.. I was wondering how will it work for this desk phone.

If you are worried about Android updates then that is a question for Yealink, not 3CX. 3CX does not make the phone nor does it to updates for the phone.

@cobaltit you're right! But I was asking it to the 3CX community, not to the 3CX company.. I just wanted to know what was the community reaction to these new android based phones..

Anyway, you linked a good resource to understand how things work at Yealink.. I googled the T46G and it seems to be a phone from 2011, so I think they give a fair support

Very true on 3CX vs community, but I think the same thing applies. I guess it just matters if you are 'curious' versus making an important decision like buying a large number of phones. For the former the community response should be fine but for the latter I'd get the answer "straight from the horse's mouth" as the saying goes. But yes Yealink for the most part does a fairly reasonable job supporting their phones for a good period of time.

Right, I didn't specify the context here.
It's a SOHO scenario (retail). I like tech and experimenting, so it's a DIY project. I've been testing the environment for about 1 month, now I'm ready to buy the phones.

I think I'm buying the T58A, it's quite expensive but we use it a lot. I also saw the review from crosstalk solutions on yt and I trust him.

Ah yes that would be up to the manufacturer to support it (assuming the hardware can handle it) but generally I would not expect them to update them as much a mobile android phone because they use android to provide a richer experience, not so much to stay up to date with the latest android version. Basically, if it works ok and it looks ok and works fine, there will not be much reason to upgrade it further, but rather just support it for its lifetime
