Hi, we are setting up our first 3CX phone system and all is working well. Calls can be made and received.

When dialling out, the receiver sees a VoIP number on their phone. What are the options for what can be displayed on a phone that is called from 3CX or are these options determined by the VoIP provider? I would have thought the options were:
a) VoIP number
b) A specified number
c) Private number
d) Text i.e. Business name?

I would like to have all outbound calls displaying anything other than (a) above. This does not need to be extensions specific.

Thanks in advance...

Your carrier will have some say in whether or not they honor what 3CX sends as CID.
CNAM is not sent by pbx but is done as a lookup by called party carrier (if they choose to do so). Your carrier should give you an option to set your CNAM (I believe up to 15 characters in US) for the lookup.

Hello @Dercni

If you used the 3CX included template for Australian Phone company then everything should be setup correctly. The PBX will send the outbound caller id set either under the extension settings, or under the trunk settings. If nothing is populated the PBX will send the main trunk number.
You can verify this by running a capture during an outbound call and checking the invite to the provider.
You can also contact your provider and ask them for specific on what is accepted and what is not.

Also be aware of E911 services. You may want one CID for E911 calls for all your extensions that at one site. You may be able to manage this with an Outbound Rule.

Not entirely true. I have seen names used in sets (including 3CX softphones) sent on to called numbers in the past. The names could be in a set, in the PBX, attached by the originating provider, or added by the terminating provider. In the past I have found that the first point to add a name will usually stop any subsequent name being attached. Now, all of this can vary by provider (both originating and terminating), so it may not hold true in all cases. Name display is not available in all regions.

Hi, I spoken to the SIP provider who advised that any CID can be configured in the phone system and they will not block it. I have added a value for "Default caller ID" on line 1 however outbound calls fail with:
Call or Registration to 03XXXXXXXX@(Ln.10001@SIP Provider Line 1) has failed. X.X.X.X replied: 404 Not Found; from IP:X.X.X.X:5060

If the IP you X'd out is that of your providers, then it sounds as if the number you are sending (dialled number) is not correct (format?).

In most cases, if you attempt to send a caller ID, which your provider does not accept, then you will get back a Forbidden message. In this case, they don't seem to know what to do with the number, as the destination cannot be found.

Where exactly did you add this? If you want a specific number displayed for all calls then you should add it under the trunk settings / Caller ID, in the "Configure Outbound Caller ID " field.

We have done this and asked our SIP provider to allow the number in their database (even after using the SIP template) and had to remove the leading '0' ie 03XXXXXXX set 3XXXXXXX in 3CX
