Hello,

I have recently configured a clients site with a VPN across to their 3CX instance in our DC. This was completed to achieve In office and out of office locations, with in office to use SIP ports and out of office using the 3CX tunnel. Everything is working correctly but since the VPN has been setup I'm seeing a double up of the 3CX software phone client registrations under the phones tab. Where each softphone extension will have 2 registrations "App for Windows" device. One registration for the internal IP and one registration for the external IP.

I am wondering if this is expected behaviour to have the two registrations listed for the App in the office (One internal and one external)? I would of though that when the softphone registers as in office (First preference) that the out of office wouldn't register over the tunnel until the in office registration fails, or am I missing something here?

I've found that if I block the site's traffic to the external address on the DC firewall (blocking out of office from connecting in side the office) then this solves the issue of the registration double up. Is this the recommend step to achieve the single registration? By keeping the internal and external connections separate?

If someone can shed some light on this that would be much appreciated as I can not find much information on the forums about this. Thank you.

This can happen when both routes are available to the 3CX PBX due to the fact that the 3CX Windows App actually tries to reach both the PBX's local and remote addresses at the same time for time conservation. That said, this is merely a presentation issue and will not have any adverse effect on the 3CX Windows App functionality.
