Hi,

It seems pop-up notifications have stopped working from the Chrome browser as well as PWA installed from chrome.
No issues with it when using Edge.

Tested from different systems with v20 update 5 to update 6 beta (619) all same result.
Notification only comes up after missed call.

Anyone else experiencing this issue? Work arounds welcomed.

Hello ARamdass,

If pop-up notifications are not working in Chrome, it’s usually due to browser settings, OS-level permissions, or interference from extensions. Here’s how to troubleshoot and fix the issue:

1. Check Chrome’s Site Notification Settings

Open Chrome.

Go to chrome://settings/content/notifications.

Make sure Sites can ask to send notifications is enabled.

Under Not allowed to send notifications, check if the site you're trying to get notifications from is listed. If so, remove it.

2. Check if Notifications Are Allowed for the 3CX Server

Visit the 3CX server you want notifications from.

Click the lock icon in the address bar.

Go to Site settings.

Under Notifications, ensure it’s set to Allow.

3. Ensure Do Not Disturb or Focus Assist Is Disabled (Windows/Mac)

Windows:

Open the Action Center (Windows + A).

Make sure Focus Assist is turned off.

macOS:

Open System Settings > Notifications.

Ensure Do Not Disturb or Focus mode is off.

4. Check Chrome Is Allowed to Show Notifications (OS-Level)

Windows:

Settings > System > Notifications.

Make sure Google Chrome is listed and turned on.

macOS:

System Settings > Notifications.

Select Google Chrome and ensure Allow Notifications is enabled.

5. Try Incognito Mode or Disable Extensions

Open an Incognito Window (Ctrl+Shift+N) and see if notifications work there.

If they do, an extension might be blocking notifications.

Go to chrome://extensions/ and try disabling them one-by-one.

6. Update Chrome

Go to chrome://settings/help to check for and install updates.

7. Clear Cache or Reset Settings

Clear browsing data (cache, cookies).

If all else fails, go to chrome://settings/reset and try resetting settings.

Hi Paulo,

Thank you for the recommendations.
Unfortunately, I have tried all your recommendations with the same results.

What is the version Chrome you use ?

Did you disable all your chrome extensions/plugins as a test? If it starts working with everything disabled, then enable one plugin at a time, then test, and then enable another, and test. If it is a plugin problem, this approach should make it easy to identify which plugin is the problem.

I am using Chrome version 137.0.7151.104
It is a new installation, so no extensions are enabled. I did test it in incognito mode with the same results.
The pop up only comes up if a call is missed.

Is your Global PUSH notifications switch enabled? The extensions?

Yes, push notificaction are enabled on all extensions.
Again, it works when using Edge browser or when PWA is installed from Edge.

Hello ARamdass,
To check your findings, I have started Chrome today, wanting to check the Version... and it started to update directly.
The good part is that it has the same version as you mention 137.0.7151.104

I have noticed, that I can enable the notifications, and the PWA, where all seems good as long as the Chrome browser is open somewhere on the PC, once i close the Chrome browser the notifications stop.

Same test with Edge, where is also does pup-op with a call notification, also when i close the Edge browser.
(note, you can NEVER close the Edge browser, it is ALWAY ON in the windows memory).

Could this be a Chrome problem ??? (i am not an expert)

@ARamdass
You could check this web push tool on your Chrome - I just tried myself on my Win11 Chrome. No need to sign in, just click the Send Notification button:

Hi Paulo,

Yes, even with the browser minimized or another window or application in use, you don't get the pop-up notification for chrome. Worst is if you have volume off you definitely don't know a call is coming in, which is the case with most of our customers.

Hi ARamdass,
For me this works fine:
Keep chrome open somewhere, and the notifications work, no problem.

Hi Vali_3CX,
When testing this website,it works as the Chrome browser is open, and the 3CX will work as well.

So my question: is it normal that the PWA notifications do stop when you close the Chrome browser??

And ARamdass would like to know why this does not work for his Chrome or 3CX setup, where he does not get any notification on Chrome (open or closed Chrome browser) with the PWA.

I can only go to this point, where my knowledge stops, so any help would be great.

Paulo

To my knowledge:
- for desktop machines yes.
- for mobile not necessarily, because there push is received by the OS, which in turn launch browser app.

Vali_3CX, thank you.

We still have the question, why ARamdass does not get any notification on the calls with Chrome?

The notification can be blocked by Chrome, but can also be blocked by Windows.

https://www.3cx.com/blog/releases/web-client-pwa/
At this link we can read that this function does need a good working IP/FQDN

Not sure if this can help, as it does seem to work fine for Edge?
Again the knowledge does stops here for me.

@Vali_3CX
Just tried it, and it works on chrome.

@paulodagraca

Same system, same extension, works fine on Edge when opened, minimized or if using PWA installed from Edge works fine.
Tried it with Firefox as well and works fine.
The issue is clearly with Chrome.

Hi All,

Exactly the same issue on customer site, no more notifications on Chrome even if notifications are allowed on Chrome and Windows System.

This behavior seems to have appeared last week. 3CX is on the latest stable version (20.0.5.551), no change last week...

I think this is a global issue with 3CX Web Softphone since latest release of Chrome...

Hi,

Win11, Chrome 137.0.7151.120 seems to work fine. Can you check if you have option to update Chrome again, you mentioned 137.0.7151.104

Thanks a lot.
I will check with the update.
