I'm looking to replace a system that uses a pre-queue message ring.

call comes it, rings once and then plays a promo message to the customer. then call flows into queue and starts ringing the phones 'for real'.

The purpose is to get the employees in this quick-server restaurant to start moving toward the phone so they can pick up on the first ring after the promo message.

Current system does a single ring on the phones. This would be fine. could also get a sip ringer if there was a way to use it this way.

playing with a ring group with a short duration and failover to a queue. Not really in love with this method though.

Couple ways you could do this:

  • You can get a Cyberdata SIP ringer (strobe or speaker) and configure that as a extension. Ring once and then forward to a queue
  • In v16 they will be adding some new IVR functionality including the ability to basically just play a message. So you could do RG -> Announcement IVR -> RG instead of a queue.

@cobaltit - I have a v16 system up for testing. do you know if this is in the beta yet? When I started working on this I was planning on using call flow but that's no more.

Right now I'm putting a couple phones in a ring group on a 2 second timer and sending it to the queue afterwards. I can make this work but I was hoping to something more elegant.

I do need to stick with queues because this is a bit of a hybrid call center approach with operators sitting remote and answering calls during rush times along side store staff. store staff answer during slow periods. remote agents need to be able set presence to log in/out of queue. I realize I can hack this with forwarding rules in each extension but

Just send them first to an IVR, play a message, then send off to the queue.

So I can't see where I read it and I don't see a specific announcement type for the IVR. I'd probably create a DTMF input type with no options and then set the invalid/no DTMF options to the queue.

For the ringing you can try a Snom PA1 hooked up to a speaker like this:

Or go with a purpose built device like the Algo 8180 or the Cyberdata 011216.

I've put a number of phone is priority hunt and have a 'pre-ringer' ring group set at 2 seconds. That keeps from having all the phones ring but helps insure at least 1 will. If all phones are occupied then it doesn't really matter if there is a pre-ring.

this isn't very elegant, but it will work.

Thanks.
