We use one of our phones to manually forward calls by setting the status:

Available - Rings to our weekday ring group
Away - Rings to our Overnight Ring Queue
Alternate 2 - Rings to our weekend ring group

When the status is set to Alternate 2 and it rings to the weekend ring group, the caller hears a different progress tone (long beep instead of US Progress tone)

Is there any way to change this? Callers have been hanging up because they think something is wrong with our phones.

Yes you can change the number that you are forwarding to for your weekend group :)

You haven't defined much of anything but I'm guessing there are outside numbers in the weekend group and thus the different progress tone as generated by the destination. Or perhaps a different outbound trunk/provider. Have you tried calling the destinations directly from a PBX extension to confirm if you have the same difference? Are you using a supported provider?

Do the calls to the Weekend ring group leave the PBX? You might compare the other ring groups you have setup, and the weekend one, in the Activity Log to see where there is a difference.

The Weekend and Weekday RIng Groups both ring to internal extensions, they don't forward outside until 60 seconds - at which point the ring goes to the standard US Progress tone.

Have you tried calling (from an extension), the weekend ring group, then work farther along to all the destinations, individually until you reach the same, odd tone? Or, is this only outside callers? If you can replicate, when calling from an extension, then remove all but one member from the ring group. Place test calls, and add them back, one at a time. Same thing with the destination if no answer.

Again, look a the call flow in the Activity Log to see how the call progresses through the PBX as this may (quickly) show why callers are getting this.

The Ring group only rings like that for outside numbers, not for internal extensions. Is "guess and check" the only method for figuring out which extension is causing the progress tone to change? This doesn't happen when we send it to our normal weekday ring group.

You could use Wireshark, and that may help determine where that particular audio originates, or, a process of elimination. Since it is only outside callers, perhaps it is from a provider.
