Ransomware v15.0 Restore

Hi all,

We have a customer who was hacked recently and had an old 15.0 PBX. The only backup was from the initial install we did back in 2021. I've tried to restore this to a 15.5 version but that throws an error about being unable to contact the 3cx license server. v16 and higher systems won't accept the backup as they require 15.5.

Are there any other options we can try to get a system back online? Customer is happy to upgrade to v18 etc but is desperate to avoid any further downtime or having to rebuild the system. They are far from us and we will need to arrange a site visit.

Sounds to me like you have little choices, based on no backups. 3CX Support may not be able to help much other than renewing the license.

Dont know if it would work like..

You could also try setting up a new StartUP and seeing if it will accept your backup.

If it does work, you can backup and restore back to your own.

Depending on what is the current version of the backup and the status of the license maintenance, there may be an option to consider the backup conversion assistance that can be provided in some cases.
It is a paid service and it is provided only to registered 3CX partners.

I don't think being on-site is necessary, but the situation looks like there could be multiple issues that might confuse attempts to get upright. Especially in a compromised LAN with legacy systems. You might consider moving them to something like Digital Ocean or finding a cloud hosting partner like ourselves (DSXVOICE) so you can get the PBX itself out of the mix and upright as quickly as possible.
