Solved Remote Extension not working

Hello there,

I could already successfully install the update to the V16 but unfortunately I can't manage to set up an external extension. I tried to provision the softphone within the lan which
works fine, I can accept calls and make calls. However if I switch the wlan it doesn't work anymore

Installed the 3CXphoneforwindows on a Windows 10 laptop, set up an extension and put in the welcome email

I read the guideline on how to provision an exterenal extension (https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/configuring-ip-phones/#h.ul2fzupi6t22/) but they didn't do it for a softphone. What can I do
to make the softphone work? I appreciate any help

Great news, so you just needed to configure your firewall correctly, especially since you pass through 2 firewalls.

Take a screenshot of your firewall settings and keep it somewhere safe in case you need to upgrade/change your network boxes.

Are the remote extensions using the the 3CX Windows app?

Yes that is correct! I downloaded it from the following link https://www.3cx.com/user-manual/

Welcome email works fine, profile gets recognized but not in the 3CX Admin console.. :/

Don't worry about the management console, if the extension registers correctly, you can try making calls.

So good news again I can make calls works fine! However I cannot receive calls

is it because I have the standard license or do you have an idea why I can't receive calls? In my opinion I have configured the groups correctly so this shouldn't be the problem..

Both! It says "Feature not available. Professional or Enterprise Key required.." However like 1/4 calls works fine

If you had queues during evaluation period (which are not included in standard) you are not able to use them. Check here for a list of features if you want to be sure you are using things the license allows for

I talked to my boss he wants to think about it so I guess thats the end for me
But as far as I understood in theory it would work so thank you all again very much for your help! Even if my boss doesn't want to use it (yet) I learned a lot!

I would not stop, create ring groups for now and add the extensions in the group - will take 5 mins or less

prove to your boss how people can work remotely in these times of lockdowns due to the virus - remote working

What would your setup be in terms of number of users , etc - you have a working system with 16 sim calls which is free (after 1 year goes to 8 sim calls)

Do you need pro features i.e queues https://www.3cx.com/ordering/pricing/

Already did, he said he wants to talk about it on Monday guess he'll decide over the weekend..
I can upgrade my license at any point right?

Well as far as I understood I need at least the pro version because we are using queues (e.g support queue,..)

you can upgrade your license any time

for queues you need pro or enterprise license

Quick Update: convinced my boss to upgrade to the pro edition but still I get "Feature not available. Professional or Enterprise Key required.." however if I look at the license setting it says "3CX Phone System Pro Edition features yes"
any ideas what to do?

Try restarting the server

Ensure the license is updated by clicking Refresh Licence Key Information


I would recommend to go to your trunk settings, edit the trunk you are currently using, and in the "Route calls to" section, select an extension that already works, and that can already make calls succesfully.

Press ok and give it a moment to re-register the trunk. Call your external number now from somewhere, and your extension should ring.

PS: To test your extension's ability to ring, dial *888. The call will end, and you will receive a callback from the PBX Echo test.

Okay so again kinda good news, receiving calls works now had to add the extension to the ring group one last bug that bothers me is that sometime the 3CXPhoneforWindows won't open, tried opening it as Admin still no reaction
I have to completly restart the computer to make it work which is quite annoying. Is there any way to solve this?

Unknown, but if a restart fixes is that would possibly imply something else is getting stuck while machine runs, or perhaps something is holding the ports it uses.

You don't run a PBX / SBC off the same machine do you?

No I'm running it from a different laptop it is not bad because if I restart the laptop but still it bothers me a bit because it gets a bit annoying to restart the laptop every time.

Edit: If I use the webclient for Google Chrome it all works fine
