Hi,

We renewed our license last week but the system went unlicensed today. I've logged in and when I try to refresh the license I get the error message "3CX failed to establish a TCP connection to activate.3cx.com." The system is running v18 Update 5. I've logged in to the box via ssh and activate.3cx.com resolves and is reachable. I've read in other posts that it may be due to an old version (why version differences would break activation is beyond me), but I can't update as the system now believes it is unlicensed. Can anyone confirm this is the reason, and whether there is a way to fix it when logged in via ssh rather than reinstalling the whole thing? I saw in a previous thread someone from 3CX suggesting there may be a way to do it from the console but no further information was provided.

Cheers,
Justin

Hello,

The PBX requires to be at least under V18.0 Update 8 (Build 939) in order to activate.
As your system is running an older version, the safest way is to create a full backup and restore using the latest V18 ISO or Windows installer.

ugh, ok. You get that breaking activation within the same major version is generally not the done thing?

So there's no way to do it from the command line using apt?

There was a whole blog post about this and multiple discussions on the forum as to the why.

you should turn on auto updates to run monthly at a minimum.

No doubt they also sent emails out explaining why the upgrade to 8 was important.
