I just bought this new phone, it is a router phone, but it won't SIP register.

In the web interface, it says (Normal phone).

trying to figure out why.

My SBC and VOIP trunk are online.

My hosted 3CX looks fine

Maybe I need to upgrade to get an IP phone ?

A few things about this phone:

the default login/pass for the web interface: admin/admin (access via the IP address ie. 192.168.1.37)

To factory reboot, make sure you are on the main screen and it is idle. Hold the [OK] button for 10 seconds.

To provision this local phone with on premise server (it is a router phone)
I had good success with:

I’m confused, is it SMB or are you hosting it on premises? The latter doesn’t include phones for the free license.

What firmware version is it, did you update?

If it’s on premises, you don’t need an SBC or router phone for phones on the same network.

hosting it on premises
Since that 2025 original post, I had hosted 3CX Pro.

I have migrated now to on premise 3CX Pro.

For whatever reason, I had trouble triggering a reprovision until I used the connect directly option.

Oh, ha, I missed that it was an old post. I thought it was two together.

Hmm, yeah, Local LAN is typically used if it is on the same network. Router phone/connect directly will work, and makes the phone portable off-network...for example to be brought home for a day.

Hi,

If the phone and PBX are on the same 192.168.1.XXX network you don't need to set it up as a router.
It should show up in Phones > PnP after you reset it and from there you can assign it to your user.
https://www.3cx.com/docs/pnp-phones/

In case you need any additional assistance, best to make a fresh post in the Fanvil section with the current details and we can take a look.
