Hi All,

I've posted some questions regarding this before, and have been contacted a few times after further information, so I thought I'd come back and post my overview of how I managed to make this work:

3CX

SIP Trunk
  • Name ShoreTel
  • IP <IP address of SG90 with SIP trunks on>
  • Number SIM calls 5
  • Authentication: Do not require - IP Based
  • Main Trunk No: 10002
  • DID's: *500 - *599 (note the * is important to get the minimum digits to 4)

Outbound Rule
  • From any extension
  • To prefix 1-4,6-9 (Our ShoreTel extensions are in these ranges, and 3CX extensions are in the 500-599 range)
  • Length 3
  • Route ShoreTel

Extensions
- I have set the Outbound Caller ID to the 3 digit 3CX extension number

ShoreTel
Voice Switch
- SG90 with 1x port type configured as 5 SIP Trunks

Trunk Groups
  • SIP Trunk Group, name: SIP to 3CX
  • Profile: Default Tie Trunk
  • Username: 10001
  • Inbound - Number of digits from CO: 3
  • Inbound - Extension checked
  • Inbound - Tandem Trunking checked (user group Executive)
  • Outbound, I have enabled, unsure if it is doing anything however
  • Trunk Digit Manipulation - Off System Extensions: Range 500- 599

Route Points
- To enable inbound DID's, and caller ID lookups from ShoreTel when I "Moved" an extension from ShoreTel to 3CX I would delete the user in ShoreTel, and add a Route Point with the same name and extension as the user extension I had just deleted. I configure call forwarding always to the 5xx number in 3cx.

Issues
I have had some issues with trunks between ShoreTel and 3CX not hanging up. Every few days I check the trunks from ShoreTel using the Trunk Test Tool and can see that 2 or so SIP to 3CX trunks are in use, whereas the 3CX dashboard shows no lines in use. I simply "end call" on these trunks as a matter of house keeping.

There is also some work with outbound rules as we currently route all our calls from 3CX out via ShoreTel and on to the public using our corporate ISDN lines. This means we need to prepend a 0 to all numbers that we pass outbound to ShoreTel. Also have additional Outbound rules to ensure that it DOESN'T prepend a 0 if an extra one is already there (eg clicking call back or similar from 3CX)

Thank you for sharing. I am sure others trying to do the same will benefit from your post.
