With the introduction of Hosted by 3CX, the 3CX SBC takes center stage. It’s the best way to connect your remote-site IP handsets and simplify your deployment. Here’s why! V18 Update 6, currently in Beta, allows you to set up a low-cost IP Phone and run the 3CX SBC on dedicated and StartUP instances. This removes the need for dedicated hardware...

Can more than one router phone be configured for the same extension ? I have one person who has 3 offices and would like a desk phone in all of them.

Currently, no. In the beta for u6 the router phone must be the first device added to an extension. Additional desk phones can be added, but they would need a separate SBC or use STUN or LAN.

I am hoping they add this capability, or at least the option to ADD a Router Phone to an extension with an existing phone.

Can 2 router phones be configured in high availability (HA)?

Can 2 router phones be configured in high availability (HA)?
I believe this was asked in one of the beta threads and the answer was no. The phones would need to support the shared IP, sync, etc. Plus the phone only allows for 10 devices, so won't scale up well for a larger firm where HA is probably more desirable.

No they cannot, HA requires dedicated SBC hardware.

You can however use each SBC phone on its own as an alternative solution to HA.

Meaning that if all your devices are capable of it, each one can serve as its own SBC only, hence if it goes offline nobody else gets affected.

And if the phone itself is dead in the first place, then no amount of HA is going to make any difference.

Thanks for the replies. I have not tested the router phone feature, yet. So, I have not seen how the router phones show up in the dashboard. However, I am pretty sure they will show up under trunks as any other SBC and under phones as any other phone. If so, there will be several SBCs listed. Can anyone explain or share a screenshot of how it will look like?
By the way, this is a great idea as long as it is kept clean.

One router phone per location, or multiple router phones are okay?

If multiple router phones, is there a primary one, or everyone can work as a primary one?

EDIT: Just found the answer from a post right above.

You can have multiple SBCs hence multiple router phones at a location.

Not sure I understand your second question but each phone can be its own SBC.

Can I set-up a Grandstream HT81X using the SBC Router Phone in the same way I would use a "normal" SBC? If yes, does the Grandstream count towards the 10 devices maximum?

Not yet - but this is planned for later.

Yes it counts too, if you use an HT814 (with all 4 ports provisioned) that counts as 4 extensions / devices.

What is the "Enable Failover" feature in the SBC setup for ?

Actually, this setting is if you use failover with 2 different FQDNs (Pro licenses.) It's almost never used.

The HA SBC doesn't use that. It uses a floating/virtual IP that is shared between the two machines.
Thanks! I miss-understood the question. That setting can be used with Enterprise Edition, or two Pro edition licenses.

Last month we tried performing the SBC router phone setup on a Fanvil V65 phone. However, we were told it was not working because the phone's hardware was version 1 / rev A and not the required version 2 / rev B release. Now, when we read the config guide docs for those phones, we are no longer seeing mention of these hardware version/revision limitations. Has something changed? Will all hardware versions of the listed Fanvil router phones now work as long as the latest firmware is installed? Or, do we still require V. 2 / Rev. B phone hardware? (And, same questions please re: the snom or yealink router phones.) Thanks!

It think there was some confusion here so please allow me to clarify.

As of the time of this writing:
  • V62 / V64 / V65 are all supported and the documents never mentioned a hardware revision because there is no Ver.2/Rev. B of this hardware. It is just a single hardware version currently.
  • For the X series models (probably the source of the confusion) these must be the V2 / Rev. B hardware variant. The older ones were not capable of this feature. This is indeed reflected in the guide: https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/fanvil-x3-x5/#h.jpbhx4ucc3ot
  • So not all hardware versions will work when it comes to X series, only the ones mentioned explicitly in the guide.
  • Nothing has changed recently, but it may change in the future at which point we will make it clear in the guides.
  • As for Snom and Yealink, unless mentioned explicitly (like the X series above) then you can expect all current versions as of this writing to work.
Hope this clears it up!

Is this still not possible?
