Skype Connect issue

Hi,

I'm trying to get Skype Connect to work inbound for calls from a Skype user without success.

The SIP trunk is connected and I can call in using the associated Skype Number. But if I try calling from a Skype user to the Skype user ID associated with the SIP trunk then I get a message saying that "<username> is not online".

There's nothing in the activity log. In fact I'm not sure that the call is even getting routed to the SIP trunk at all.

Can anyone help?

Hi @smarti

Skype Connect works via the Skype number, like a trunk would via any other provider.

You cannot call the username as this is not linked to a number but rather a Skype user session.

It says this on the Skype Manager profile page:

"You can receive incoming calls on your SIP Profile via Skype Numbers and via Skype accounts. When someone calls your Skype Number or contacts your account on Skype the calls get forwarded to your SIP Profile."

I read this to mean that any Skype account could call you direct.

So if you aren't even sure it's getting routed to the trunk at all, it sounds like your first step would be reaching out to Skype support. Once they can confirm they are sending the calls to the trunk (which doesn't sound like this is the case else you should see something in your logs) then perhaps someone here can help. But until it reaches 3CX there's not much we can do.

Agreed, I was hoping that someone on here had already encountered and solved the same problem.

I don't hold out much hope with Microsoft as when our Microsoft partner called them they didn't know what 'Skype Connect' was despite escalating the issue internally. They then proceeded to tell us that Skype was "end of life" this week so we'd need to increase our subscription to Office 365.

It's been a long time since I've setup a Skype trunk (like v12 ish ) but I do remember it working when assigning a name to a phone number. And I can certainly understand about your partner. We are a Microsoft partner and had it not been for the fact I'm also a 3CX partner I wouldn't know anything about Skype Connect. It's not something Microsoft mentions/pushes.
