Hi All,

Looking for the best approach for implementing the following voicemail setup.

  • Extension 100, is the primary reception phone with voicemail enabled.
  • We want voicemail to be accessed by the reception phone and have message indicator, not emailed.
  • Our business hours are 7am - 7pm,
    • - during BH any calls missed in the queue go to reception voicemail and should be played an Unavailable message
    • - outside of BH all calls should be played an Afterhours message which states our business hours etc and the recording should be left on the reception voicemail.

Outside of BH, we still need the reception phone to be able to take internal calls so can't use DND status and a different greeting under the forwarding rules.

How am I best to go about this?

Many Thanks

You could setup a Digital Receptionist that the inbound rule points after hours calls to. Have the DR play a short message with biz hours and then on timeout pass the call to the voicemail for the receptionist extension.
They would then hear the standard voicemail greeting but that's the closest I can come up with.

If you really want to have the extension in DND there is something you can try but it is a bit messy and unconventional when it comes to configuration so I would actually recommend @pmterp's approach especially if listening to the extensions voicemail greeting isn't a problem.

1. Create a Ring Group that only contains the receptionist's extensions
2. In the extensions settings go to Forwarding Rules and for DND set internal calls to go to the Ring Group.
3. Also enable "Accept calls from Ring Groups" for DND.
4. Set external calls to go to voicemail with the Out Of Office greeting.
