Update 7 Beta - New Deployment Server

I think its a bit too easy to put headset support on us. Its up to the headset provider to make this work, not 3CX. We do not officially support EPOS. Maybe you found an old page from 2013. At the time the windows client supported it yes and in fact it still does!

So now you have to buy a supported headset which is Yealink and it works perfect with Teams.

Or just use one app at a time.

If you prefer, we can issue you a full refund of your subscription so you can find another solution.

@JupiterIT - well thats a lot of headsets and they are very expensive as well. Why not use the v16 Windows client then if it works well with the EPOS and you can get another few years of use out of them.... The web client can no longer access the windows driver from the browser after an update from chrome (security reasons) so unfortunately you have to use the WebHID driver. Other then that i would say take the complaint to EPOS and make them make it work with the universal driver - its not up to us its up to them....

@Nick Galea Would it be possible to enable Grandstream's headsets in the DesktopApp (meaning authorize them)? It works well using the Webclient (not perfect but it works) so we could use it in the app. (We have a few of those while we swap them for Yealinks over time.)

@ConceptsWeb let me discuss internally. But web client you can already use the universal driver with Grandstream?

Yup it works on the Webclient so it's just a matter of allowing it in the app.

How long will the now "legacy" way of configuring still be available? By legacy I mean going through (entering license, number of digits, etc.) the configuration wizard on port 5015 on the PBX.

@Peter PBX Thank you for the further background. I see you have done well on converting Panasonic to 3CX free editions in your area. In all fairness thats what we made the free edition for. But I hope if i ever visit Ireland i will be given at least a free Pint in the local PUB :)

Now in relation to Amazon Lightsail, you are right it is available in Ireland and that is good. We also have nothing against Lightsail at all, i quite like it personally. Its a pity it does not support marketplace images. But I suspect Amazon views Lightsail much like 3CX views the free edition. In any case, we will discuss internally how much work it would be to deploy a marketplace image via the API to Lightsail from the partner portal.

@arno_m It will be available for a while, i cant give an exact time frame. If you are missing custom certificates this will be added to the deployment no worries. Any other specific features?

Thanks for the answer, I am using the wizard for some automated deployment, but I will be moving that to the XML file in the future.
Just a completely unrelated question: would you have any news on the possibility of a documented REST API?
I've seen some use of /xapi/v1 routes here and there with Bearer token authorization which would suggest it is in progress.
Thanks!

Great news, thanks for considering keeping lightsail.

Hi Nick,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, you are welcome in Ireland anytime, and I can assure you that you won't have to put your hand in your pocket for a pint of the frothy stuff!

We have just finished a 3CX partnership progress meeting with our UK account manager (Paul Clarke). We touched on a lot of things including our sales pipeline of Panasonic customers and new customers, 3CX licensing, and Lightsail hosting. Paul made no promises, but it was a positive meeting and we left the meeting with a feeling that we were listened to. And that's all we ask for.

So thank you again Nick for listing to our feedback, it's very much appreciated.

Peter

Just putting my hand up as another partner who will continue using Lightsail with well 100-odd installs on there. Losing support for an install just isn't a big deal, as anything that I've asked support has fallen outside the "supported" features anyway so has been of no help to us anyway.

It's annoying to have to do manual installs, but not more annoying than updating billing and management tools for another hosting provider. As long as a manual install is always an option, I don't care what 3CX do with their automated tools.

Hi Nick,

what is the reason that the current wizzard will not be implmented at future releases? We use 3cx *only* at on premise server here in germany, never the cloud. The wizzard was a good think all the time!
In the new configuration wizzard there are the credentials for the management console not displayed. Why?

regards, Norman

Interesting...

This may not be as big an issue as I thought.

As long as we can install 3CX on Lighsail, it doesn't necessarily have to be via the 3CX portal.

I will test direct deployment later, in case 3CX finds there is no business case to continue deployment via 3CX portal.

Thanks Sam

Please watch the partner forum in the coming days for an announcement about lightsail

Dropping support for Lightsail will be a major headache for us.

We have over 160 3CX instances running on Lightsail.

The billing on AWS EC2 is hard to manage as you have to buy reserved instances to get competitive prices. With Lightsail you just pay for what you use (no need to reserve anything).

Also, we will have a problem if we have to redeploy any of these because if we redeploy to AWS EC2 we can't move the IP address over as they use different IP address pools (our wholesale SIP provider provides IP trunks - non registered).

Digital Ocean is not an option in Ireland either.
I totally agree with you. We use lightsail as well as EC2 is hard to quote under when you don't know the total cost.

So are you saying that a user can't just grab an off the shelf headset and use it like they can now?

Obviously there is no support this way. But I have a lot of users that like to use apple or google buds or even some some cheap 3.5mm headset.

As far as getting audio to pass from 3CX to a headset, if the host OS can get audio, then 3CX can. The integration is only needed to enable special features of that headset - stuff like the button the headset answering/declining the call, mute toggling from the headset, etc. So the existing headsets will work, but integration may not depending.

Regarding the new "ish" router phone feature. For a cloud hosted instance, does anyone see any reason to not just make every phone a router phone? Now every phone is it's own point of failure instead of an on prem SBC, or 1 router phone with 10 other phones connected through it. I think RTP handoff (Not entirely sure router phones handle RTP handoff for phones proxied through it. Haven't tested this yet) might come into play but most of our customers are close enough to the DC where they won't notice the difference of 30ms compared to LAN latency.

Is there a limit to the number of router phones an instance can have? Maybe too many router phones eats up RAM or something I'm not aware of? I was just thinking, it's probably the best to make each phone a router phone, for cloud hosted that is.
