We recently made it possible for installations running on V16 Update 8 to upgrade to V18 Alpha 4. This also means having your Linux Operating System upgraded from Debian 9 to Debian 10 Buster. As you can understand, this is a major upgrade of your base operating system and bears its risks. Therefore we optimized, safeguarded and reviewed the proces...

Hello Benjamin, Nice to meet you.
Do you think that installing the package sngrep in Linux is enough to fail the upgrade?

There's no way to know for sure outside of testing it.

This is the kind of package that could have dependencies conflicts with the 3CX dependencies.

Well, I did it. Although in a test environment, without further employements, the simple fact of having the sngrep package installed didn't fail the upgrade. V18 up and running.!

@B.lueken We did a test upgrade for a v16 to v18 on a machine before the upgrade we did a manual backup (Offsite of the server) then tried the automated upgrade. The upgrade went fine (Received an email of a system Backup) then SSHd in and checked and saw that it had upgraded to Buster. However, the restore never completed (Backup took about 10-Min and we let it try to restore for about 3-hours.) checked the 3CX services and the: "3CXPhoneSystemMC01.service" had failed to start and would not start (Tried manually starting the service and rebooting server. I also tried reinstalling the 3CX v18 from iso and did a restore of the 3CX backup and it still got hung up post restore?

This is on the Azure Cloud, just wondering if here is something in this instance that is causing the crash upon restore?

@TahdenHerra just to clarify some things please. You mentioned " However, the restore never completed "
But before this you said that the upgrade went fine.
So machine upgraded to Debian 10, PBX upgraded to v18 and then you tried to restore the backup ov v16 on top ?

@NikosT_3CX sorry I should’ve clarified better.

I was speculating on the automatic process that you guys have set up. From what I could tell the upgrade process you guys have does a back up of the system then upgrades the 3CX and the Linux and then does a restore of the local back up that was created. When I try the automatic upgrade I get an email saying there was a back up completed, I SSH into the system and see that it has upgraded to buster, when I go to the web portal I see that it’s the new login interface. But I never received an email that the upgrade has completed or failed. I checked the services and the 3CX system service has failed to start. I left the system in that state and didn’t touch anything for several hours but nothing happened.

so I did like instructed in the blog post to take a back up that I had and restore it to a new fresh instance. I tried restoring to a new fresh version 18 instance and the 3cx system service would not start would not start. (The backup I made was of the bare minimum configuration so it was less than 50mb in size)

please let me know if there is any other info that I missed

Just throwing some feedback if it's not been mentioned already RE desktop app.

When I want to dial a number with the softphone I hit the icon to bring the keypad up.

Now, I have 3 screens and if Im actively moving windows around (the 3CX one in particular) and I press to open the dialer again, it opens up at the last location I had the window. Could it be made so it always opens up on top of the app?

@TahdenHerra do me a favor. SSH to your machine and check here cd /var/lib/3cxpbx/ .
Do you see any file like update log ?

we did this on a test server hosted on google cloud and it worked perfectly!

Attempted twice to upgrade a PBX that is located on AWS Lightsail which is meant to be tested and support to have it fail twice.

The 2nd upgrade attempt was straight after the fresh install using your PBXExpress (not sure on new term).

The VM looks like it reboots but does not load the OS so cannot get logs or anything. All I can do is blow away and power up a new instance again.

Any help would be amazing

I have the same issue with Azure. Fresh install and failed after upgrades. We must be the lucky 3% users

It's a little worrying that we are the 3%; especially as the PBX installer is the only way we can deploy to AWS Lightsail; and their own deployment does not upgrade out of the box.

With these results so far I'm not looking forward to the release; we have 15+ installs and not sure we should be upgrading.

@StrobeTech-Robin and @DavidHuang we have identified the cause of the issue and also found the solution.
It was an issue with some packages of system not 3cx related, but Debian ones.
Fix is being finalized on testing now and will be released soon.

@StrobeTech-Robin @DavidHuang all have been deployed and released and you must be able to see the OS Upgrade again in your PBX on Updates section. If not yet, give it a few more minutes and it will be there :)

My Azure version updated to Debian 10 but 3CX is not active. How do I manually install v18 on Debian 10?
