V16: Linux OS Upgrade from Debian 9 to Debian 10 is now Available

You can achieve your aims of having a single email address deliver to multiple people by configuring distribution lists in whatever platform you use for email. The best-practise way to have multiple employees answer emergency phones, reception phones etc. is to put them in ring all groups and use handsets that support the hotdesking functionality. 3CX doesn't license based on extensions in use like the popular cloud providers so there's no need for these sorts of awkward workarounds.

Upgrade was smooth and successful. Management Console is responsive.
Looking for several features I assume are not in the system yet or I don't know where to find them:
  • Change Journaling
  • DNS Helper
  • Reports

Audit Log is accessible from the Dashboard (middle row of quick access big "tiles")

Reports require Pro or Ent edition.

DNS Helper is only available for on-prem install, if my memory serves.

Okay... so now that I have found it, Thanks to Ivank, The AUDIT LOG IS AWESOME!
There is a lot of very useful information there. Very nice job 3CX.

We have no Cloud based installs, but I see no DNS Helper. The Welcome Emails have both Internal and External Links.

Hovering over icons to see what they do is something you do if you have too much time.
I double checked the new UX design of V18 alpha4 now with several random people. Some of them even did not know 3cx before. EVERYONE mentioned that the design is not intuitive and they may need to learn, which icon stands for which function.
I would suggest to maybe change it to a collapsing/expanding menu, where the user has the choice to collapse the textual menu and just see the icons if he wishes to do so.

I understand the advantages of a minimalistic design as well. But keep in mind that most of the end users of the web cliennt are not technical experienced at all but will use the web client in full screen mode. That's the reality, no matter what other good practice would be possible.

I don't want to blame here. 3cx v18 is a big step forward. And as it is in alpha status maybe some adjustments could still be done according to testers feedback ;)

Appreciate your work, can't wait for testing the next version.

Best regards, David
I agree.

Also, where is logging in or out of a queue? A manager of a Queue does not appear to have the ability to log agents in or out.

Keep up the good work, glad to be able to test further!

@edfosho @weimerd Since when dont icons work for users? You can hover over the icons to see what they mean although its quite obvious. And worst case a user can click on them to see what there is... Its free. Not rocket science.

I understand criticism isn’t always nice to hear when you’ve worked hard on a new feature or design, but people are just trying to help and give their honest feedback and also suggestions about how they think things can be improved. Isn’t that why you are releasing alpha versions in the first place? No need to chew their heads off :) (or how goes that expression?)

I agree with the suggestion to make the icons ‘collapsable’, many programs do this and this way, you have the best of both worlds. Experienced users use the ‘icon-only’ and people that don’t use the phone that often, or, have difficulties understanding the icon, can have a short text displayed alongside the icon. What seems completely logical to power-users, often makes no sense to less tech-savvy users.

@noord Thank you for the life guidance :) In my inexperience i was under the impression the alphas we're to obtain technical feedback. In this particular update wanted to see how the update from Debian 9 to 10 goes.

On the plus side, I am happy to report that 10,000 plus installs have upgraded succesfully. And the ones that failed we're only because users had modified the base install with custom scripts, installed non 3CX updates or just not used the 3CX ISO but another Debian ISO. Use the 3CX ISO and only that or else a supported cloud provider.

Not sure if anyone else experienced this but after upgrade to V18 alpha 8 Office365 contact sync stopped synching yet connection says its functioning correctly. We can not add any users to sync in contact synch and the user that was there before is also gone as are their contacts do not show up in web client address book. We are not using user synch, sign in synch(AD) or calendar synch at this point:

We use vm transcription, it feels like there is a lot of wasted space where there use to be visible transcription in the primary view. The new UI emulates the android client where you must click on the icon for a pop up to see transcription. This removes an advantage in the old design where you could quickly sort through vm already addressed and simply right click as read. Not that we can live with this new layout but it is an extra step and vm transcription seemed better placed where it was before on the desktop client.

Is it possible that the users that you are trying to add to Contact sync don't have a O365 license, or they had one and now they don't?

Active user with E3 Subscription. Tried toggling off and on contact synch to no avail. As a side note shared contacts do show up as a choices to populate.

If I understood your description, I tried it a bit earlier but seemed to work fine.
I'd suggest creating a new thread in 3CX Communication System so we can check this without cluttering this thread.

I upgraded an older pbxexpress instance running in OVH two days ago, this morning it stopped responding to the outside world and upon rebooting in OVH the instance appears to have corrupted. I have had a to raise a ticket with OVH as it no longer responds to any of their management controls. I'm looking like a new instance and restore from backup. This machine has run fine for two years until the upgrade!

From what I saw of it though I was pleased :)

From the blog post:

"This upgrade is designed for installs made with the 3CX ISO."

Upgrade worked fine on a 3cx.co.uk hosted instance.

Potential bug -

If you enable M365 integration, you can enable sign-in as admin for a 365 user and this works fine, but it would appear that if you give a user management console access and add them to the user sign-in section of the 365 sign-in page, when you try to log in as them it just throws you back to the login page again after taking you through 365 sign-in. Is that function still in development (i.e. known broken) or should it work? The link between 365 and 3cx is definitely working as I can log in to the management console using 365 for a user who's allowed to impersonate the admin.
