i was having some issues with v20 rel3 hotdesking. someone suggested i try update 4 to see if that fixes my issue. i updated to it it did not fix my issue. i did a backup of the system reloaded a fresh install of the latest release off of 3CX site. Why doesn't the 3CX site tell you what release of software you are downloading? Why can't you select the specific version you need from the site. it is v20 update 3 on the site now. i put that on the server went to restore my data base and it says the backup is v20 release 4 and can only be restored on release 4. how do i get a copy of release 4 so i can restore this system.

3CX will always have the final and stable release for download on the downloads page.

Install a "new" system with your FQDN, go through the update procedure to bring it up to Update 4, then restore your configuration.

i tried that i put on an older backup to restore the system. since it is a new system there is no backups on it to restore. i do have a copy of the backup on my management server how do i get it to the new 3cx for restore?

i restored the older database on installation of 3CX. it of course didn't work right for the licenses since they were already update4. i updated the system to update 4 and the licenses started working. how do i get my stored backup on to the 3cx so i can do a restore of the database. i have it saved on a seperate server and since i did a fresh copy of v20 there are no old backups on the 3CX

used one drive to put the correct backup on my management server. reinstalled v20 rel 3. restored my database saved at v20R3 and it installed the system. this system actually went from v20 rel4 bata back to v20 rel3. The original backup i took for rel4 will not load back on the machine since i have no way of downloading v20 rel4 to install it so i can restore the database backup to the system. if 3CX is going to make it impossible to downgrade back to a previous version they need to supply whatever software version you may need to restore a system. if you have a system with v20 rel4 bata and the server dies it is going to be difficult to get the database back = down time. you can't get rel4 to load on the system and you can't restore your release 4 3cx backup to a release 3 system. luckily i had several backups or this would of been a complete reprogram.

I agree with this, I'm having the same issue. We're running 3CX v18 U9 on our live PBX. We made a backup of the PBX and restorted it to another VM which has V20 U4 installed, so we could prepare everything for the update of the live PBX to v20.
After the preparation was finished, we made a backup of that v20 PBX, and upgraded our live PBX to v20 but the issue is that the installer we can download from the 3CX customer portal is an older build of v20. So we can't restore the backup during the initial setup as the backup file is from a newer version than the installed one.

An installer of the latest build - Version 20.0 Update 4 (Build 487 Release) - would be really helpful here.

Install a "new" system with your FQDN, go through the update procedure to bring it up to Update 4, then restore your configuration.

We indeed tried installing a "new" system so we could update it to the latest build, but the backup wouldn't restore. The 3CX services stopped and restarted right after, and no backup was restored.

3CX needs to rethink their upgrade procedure. they should have several versions of sofware on their website that you can pick from. if i have to do a disaster recovery or replace a server, any procedure like that. I am forced to do an upgrade. if you do this from v18 to v20 you could lose access to the system if you don't have your system owner set up right. V20 seems to have some bugs specially in the hotdesk feature. I can't go back to 18 so this v20 3cx is useless.

Version 20 has been out since February 29th. We have been very lenient with the upgrading from version 18 to Version 20. We have allowed this till the end of the year.

Once a key is activated into a newer version it cannot go back to the previous version. This has been the way for a very long time.

The System owner has also been a requirement since Version 18 Update 6. So this is not something new in Version 20. Just that in Version 20 the management console has gone and replaced with the Admin console.

What issues are you facing with the Hot desking. Update 4 has made improvements to the hot desking feature.

Oh and BTW, since this thread was started and Version 20 is being bashed relentlessly (which we dont appreciate TBH) Update 4 is out and the download link is now update 4.

hot desking my users can't log in. it says logged in succcessfully shows logged in on the 3Cx admin console but the phone never logs in the user always says hd000xx.I may have figured out the issue, upgrading to update 4 doesn't fix it. I had to delete the hd phone and the user to get it to log in again. when you provision a HD phone it lets you pick from a router phone or a local ext. (Fanville X7C-v2) i picked local extension and used the fqdn as the interface. phone registered came up and worked. i noticed that in the phone programming the ip showed as the default gateway not the ip of the phone. i went in and reprovisioned the phones to the ip address instead of the fqdn. this changed the phones to have their ip address instead of the DGW which is what i wanted but unfotunately it broke the hot desking ability to log on to a phone making my system a paper weight. DIdn't mean to offend you, i like the 3Cx software and all the features it has. we buy enterprise so we can use all the features. All i am asking is that you guys put the software version level you are downloading on your web page so you will know if you are upgrading your system or not. and downgrading is sometimes necassary if there is a bug or problem with your install.

Perfect, importing the backup from our other v20 U4 PBX worked flawlessly this time.
Thank you.

HOTDESKING ISSUE SOLVED: I believe this is a bug in the software. set up HD phone set up user with hotdesking log them in to phone. the next day they go to log in to HD phone it says it worked but the user extension never shows up on the phone. console shows user logged in but can't use phone, (HD phone still shows logged in green). deleting the user and rebuilding them was the only way to get them to be able to log in for a day. the next day problem is back. This login failure is caused by the BLF keys. i put blanks for some keys to try and get the keys to fall out right on the phone but i noticed they put them in order on HD phone omitting the blanks. if i go to a user that can't log in and delete all their keys they can log in. not sure if this is a problem with v20 only since there is no way to go backwards, downgrade. I also programmed a users keys with no blanks and they do not seem to have a problem logging in anymore.

MM1969 could you please share your exact phone model and firmware version so we could reproduce?
There were no changes in regard to BLFs treatment between v18 and v20.

Are your phones Fanvil, and do any of the extension/BLF names have special characters in them? Like "&" for example?

yes they are fanville x7c phones and that was the problem. Wish i would of seen your post before i went through the trouble to figure it out myself.

hey thanks for the reply you were exactly right. is that a known issue with Fanville phones? I went through the process of elimination and figured that out today custom speed dial Food & Beverage did it.
