V20 Upgrade Checklist & FAQ

Have the users tried "installing" the web client, leveraging the PWA functionality?

The result is the 3CX web client will sit separate to the web browser and act quite like the v18 desktop app. This way, a user can close their regular browser without affecting the web client.
Doesn't the client just close when the user clicks the 'X'? Totally unlike the existing softphone which minimises to the tray... this is a side-effect of the new tech but still leaves users liable to close the client :(

The new Windows Store client does, yes. It now will warn (before closing) if there's an active call, and I don't have the thread handy but it sounded like they were considering having it warn at other times.

I must say that the new Microsoft store client is very dissapointing, especially the chat function is removed, how I'm gonna say to 700 users go in the Store and download it, (in most of companies microsoft store is disabled) we use to deploy it as .msi via Baramundi, the next thing which would make sense is automatic provisioning using Microsoft Active Directory matching the AD user with his 3cx extension so no other steeps needed from the users like finding the Store app and finding the extension passwords.

There are no inbound rules in v20. I currently miss the option of assigning calls via CID. Have I just overlooked something?

Also the possibility of porting a SIP trunk to another provider with transfer of all DID assignments is not possible. With v18, we exported the CID and DID to a csv file, then edited the csv (trunk number) and imported it back into the new trunk. This could of course be solved much more elegantly by changing the trunk directly and also automatically adapting all phone numbers to the format of the new SIP provider.

@hwohlert CID routing will be back in RC3

In terms of editing, soon you will be able to have a simple call processing script and assign actions to lists of caller IDs.

I have tested out the 3CX Windows app. While the engineering team has moved to provide a safer option than the Electron App, which had some issues last year, there are still significant challenges with using the 3CX Windows App. I hope that 3CX can address these challenges by listening to user feedback and taking steps to improve the app's functionality.

1. The chat and meet functions require opening in a separate window/browser, which can be inconvenient.
2. Limitation of settings.
3. It is not possible to set BLF on the Windows App
4. The app cannot be resized
5. When the close button is clicked, it closes the entire app and drops the phone call, which can be frustrating.
6. Just need 1 click, and the account in the profile is deleted.

I appreciate that the 3CX team is working hard to provide a safer and excellent call experience. However, there are still many areas of improvement, and I hope that the team can take this feedback into account and continue to make improvements to the app. Maybe the Electron App should stay until the Windows App matures.

@frankietseu That’s by design, it’s meant as a simple phone not a full app. All your points have been raised…It doesn’t seem like that’s going to change, except possibly #5 is currently supposed to warn you:

So yeah one needs to have the web client open to chat etc.

Electron is a useful app for many, especially those who need to cross-check with other agents while having the customer on hold or inform others in the group before transferring or leaving a group note. However, the need for an additional open window in the browser can be a drawback. I have pilot-tested this with several agents, and they have claimed that this significantly lowers productivity throughout the day.

It's not that unwilling to change, but it's just too challenging. I believe they are watching it closely, and I hope they will reconsider the many requests to keep the Electron app.

Fingercross...

Will there be a Google Console Install update?
Currently looks like only 18.0.9 is available.

Hi,

I am trying to understand how to work with the new roles and permissions. I don't understand how to use them in the context of a CIO who needs to administer the system and generate reports but is not owner of the system.
It looks like the new roles and rights *require* CIOs and members of their team to all be set as Owner of the system otherwise they have to choose between Administering the system or Generating reports.

I have trouble seeing how the fixed roles and permissions are going to be able to apply to all the different needs.

Can anyone provide some insights?

Thanks

I need help please. I have my hosted 3CX, hosted by 3CX. I started the upgrade process, and now it get "server error" when trying to access it. I did a backup before starting the upgrade.

Where do I start troubleshooting this? I need this up and running for my small business.

Thanks!

Well, it's back, I can make calls, but it will not let me login as an admin! It is not taking my credentials, not showing the option to log in with Microsoft, and the password reset is not sending me a reset link.

It looks like it only has the user login, but I cannot find the admin login. In the portal, it shows the same URL for both...

Any tips?

the admin login is dead after upgrading to v20. you must use your system owner extension.

Why would the CIO of a company not be able to have System Owner rights?

Why would the CIO of a company not be able to have System Owner rights?
Hi Nick,
If there's one CIO, why not though I don't understand the logic. But when you have a CIO team at larger customers, there is no justification for all team members to be system owner. Specifically, they need to manage departements, extensions, phones, user roles (which is also severly restricted now) and reports.
The fact that the System Admin role is not allowed to elevate extensions to Manager, Group Owner or System Admin is also disturbing. System admin but not really...
The flexibility needed for real life setups juste seems to be missing now.

I share your perspective regarding the role of a CIO.
It's contradictory to have a CIO limited to just one department...

Chief information officer is a C-suite job title given to the executive in charge of information technology initiatives and strategy. The CIO oversees the computer systems required to support the organization's unique objectives and goals.
Being a CIO is for overseeing an entire organization, not just a single department.

The main challenge I foresee is that in many organizations, the "Manager" (of a one department) needs to generate reports for the Queues they manage and the employees they are responsible for... without having access to edit « Call handling » and « Voice & Chat » . Call reports may be required for ensure that team members are performing their duties well... or if there's a need to adjust the number of employees working by possibly increasing staff.

While reports can be scheduled, the reality is that the need for different reports could arise spontaneously.

In some organizations, certain group owners (and system owners) intentionally want to display calls to group members... for example, to an assistant...

So, in summary, I confirm that in certain roles, it would be beneficial to make some permissions more flexible (not need "all flexibility", only strategic rights).
This is especially true for roles like "Manager", "Group Owner", "System Owner".

@Guillaume Bourgeois
In summary not all organizations are the same…

Seems like park (to be separated now) and user management and reporting are common themes but I’m sure there are a few dozen other cooking combinations. We don’t know the background/coding…was it a solution to some sort of resource problem? Maybe a permission table can be cached in RAM. Maybe that doesn’t scale well with high density hosting.

Most customizable (but most complex and probably most resource intensive) is full custom roles where we can build out what is needed. Presumably some tie together so probably not as simple as building a giant table of checkboxes.

Perhaps another path is allowing multiple roles to be assigned, and additive.

(just thinking out loud)
