VLAN Settings Per Phone or Use LLDP

Hello,

We're just getting ready to roll out 3CX with Yealink phones. In the phone provisioning tab I see I can specify both the phone VLAN and the PC VLAN. Seems easy enough.

However, I've also heard about doing this at a network level with LLDP (or even LLDP-MED). So do I need to enable LLDP on the network AND configure the VLANs in the phone provisioning or do I just use one or the other?

If it's just one or the other, I'd rather set LLDP at the network level and not have to configure each phone. Any pros and cons to doing it one way or another?

Use LLDP on your switch. Most can do the quick easy task of sending 2 VLANs: data and voice.

The phone will take the voice VLAN automatically based on the LLDP, so I would go this route. Much easier to manage as well.

Only set manually in Phone Provisioning when you don't have DHCP or you need granular control.

Usually, the best thing is to put the phones on a separate VLAN/subnet. Then, you can allow only the PBX to be reachable by the PC subnet so that the Webclient works but they can't access the phones (for security reasons, only if you really want to.)

We plugged a Yealink T54W into the network and loaded the 3CX, but it didn't show up in the phones tab of 3CX. I thought putting the server and phone on the same VLAN might help.

It probably will.

You need to ensure that multicast messages from the phones can reach the PBX.

The PBX will listen for those messages at 224.0.1.75
