I'm relatively new to 3CX and have recently set up a 3CX PBX hosted free with 3CX. Please forgive anything stupid I write.
  • 3CX Version, Professional Annual 16.0.5.619
  • Server OS, ?
  • Is the 3CX Server Hosted and where? Hosted by 3CX
  • IP Phone Make/Model/Firmware N/A
  • Provisioning Method: Local / VPN / STUN / SBC N/A
  • Trunk Provider or Gateway Make/Model N/A
  • Has the Firewall Checker passed: YES
  • Are custom Phone Templates being used: NO
I have configured, following the guidance page, the voicemail speech-to text.

If I apply the application restriction of IP address and specify the IP address (IPv4) from the Information section of the 3CX Dashboard, the API service errors. If I set the application restriction to none, i.e. don't specify the IP address of the 3CX PBX, the API service succeeds and I get the transcription which is shown in the voicemail email.

I've read about disabling IPv6, but cannot find anywhere to do this, either on Google Cloud Platform, or on the 3CX server. Also, I can't find how to discover the IP address (IPv4 or IPv6) that the 3CX server is using to communicate with the Google Cloud Speech-to-Text API service.

Any advice would be welcome, as I feel that my Speech-to-Text service is vulnerable with only the API key to authenticate its use.

I have set some quotas so that no more than 10 requests per minute and no more than 3,600 seconds per day can be made.

Thanks in advance.
John

If the PBX is hosted by 3CX (trial instance) you will not be able to modify the IP addresses.

This can be done only once you host your own PBX on your own server or cloud VM.

The public IP used is the one that appears in the management console on the right-most box called "Information"

Thank you for the prompt response.

That's the IP address I'm using (copy and paste!) on the Application restrictions of the Speech-to-Text API, and this is causing the API service to error when a request is made. If I do not specify the IP address, i.e. Application restrictions set to None, the request is successfully processed by the API service.

Are you suggesting that the issue may be some kind of limitation of the PBX being hosted by 3CX (trial instance), and that if I were to host the PBX on a public cloud service such as Amazon Lightsail, this limitation would not exist?

No, i was simply referring to your 2nd question.

The restriction you set is on the side of google correct? This is to protect your key from being used by 3rd parties, thus charging your Google account (since google transcription is not a free service).

Now when you restrict it, if Google sees you coming from another IP, they will deny the connection and you will get an error.

So, ensure you have the correct key (which you give to the PBX) and then ensure you have added the public IP of the PBX in the x.x.x.x part (ie. 35.28.74.163)

If you entered something wrong here, or elsewhere that does not strictly follow the guide, then probably Google will stop you.

I suspect that you maybe missed a step because when I replicate it here on my test PBX it appears to work ok.

As previously mentioned, I copied and pasted the IP address from the 3CX PBX Dashboard.

Google side:

3CX PBX side:

If I set the Application restriction to none, it works:

Many thanks for your help, and if it works for your setup but not mine, there is obviously something different about either my 3CX PBX configuration or my Google Cloud Platform setup, or both!

Hi,

I removed the screenshots for privacy reasons (public IP).

I think you should try and look at the errors you get, try looking in the Logs under System Service log and see what google replies to your machine.
