Hi. I have users who now user Voicemail. Obviously pin codes have been setup which I've said are the responsibility of the users to keep private. The problem is when they dial into voicemail on their phones and type the pin when prompted, it is displayed on the phone for anyone to see. Seriously - I couldn't make this up. What needs to be done so that the pin is not shown (or shows as **** which is more common). Thanks.

Hi Mark,

The voicemail menu is an IVR just like any other, the phone will not know to hide the characters because it doesn't know its a PIN. Same as is you call your bank or payment processing center and they ask you to dial a pin or card number via an IVR to complete a payment.

As for seeing it while being typed, then someone could also see what buttons you are pressing by looking at your keypad..

However, some phones (ie. Yealink T46G) will allow you to press the arrows after entering the code, which will hide them from the screen for the rest of the duration of the call.

Hello @MarkGray

I think by using phones it's fcked up because it's just a dial in a "call" so it will be shown on phone screen..

But you can teach your users to use Voicemail on Web Client ?

Nice suggestion Mathieu. Its funny because this did not happen on the old system that was put in back in the 90s. Your suggestion will work though.....if 3CX ever get back to me regarding the issue I have with Web Client. Thanks again!!

Not the answer I was hoping for but Mathieu has given me an alternative option which may work here. I just need to get the Web Client working! I have raised a separate post for that. Thanks for taking the time to answer though! https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/web-client-not-accepting-username-password.66802/

Yes that would work if they can access the webclient or the windows desktop client also since you don't need to dial the VoiceMail IVR this way. I will reply to your other post to provide assistance.

You're welcome Mark ;)

This is not a 3CX issue. The phone is deciding to display the information, not 3CX. Just as @JohnS_3CX mentioned putting your credit card in would display. Your old system didn't display the PIN because they made the PBX and the phones. For this to work like you want there would have to be some sort of standard or the phone manufacturers would otherwise have to decide if you push the defined VM button to not display the characters. Good luck on that front. Now in the 3CX soft phone or web client that is something they can control.

Yeah @cobaltit as you say, I think it wont happen haha !

You can enable in the extension this setting in the Voicemail tab

[X Disable Voicemail PIN Authentication

if this is set, then if you call from your extension the vbox service we will not ask for a pin. If you call it from outside (PSTN) then, of course, we will still ask for it. Just someone could come internal to your phone and abuse it...

In snom devices I do know you can *** it if you wish with this setting --> https://service.snom.com/display/wiki/show_ivr_digits but now we are in customer template and where I stop ;-)

Thanks all. If its by design then it is what it is. I've simply changed my voicemail message to say don't leave a voicemail because it won't be heard, send me an email instead. Not ideal but security maintained :-)

Why not just go into the extension settings --> Voicemail and select to have the voicemail sent to email and deleted from the voicemail box?

Voicemail can also be disabled for users that dont need it

I'm quite sure you'll find what you need now @MarkGray haha ! There is several ways to listen to a voicemail ;)
