Windows Phone 8/Windows RT/

3cx phone works fine one windows 8 laptop but I'm left hanging on my RT tablet. Also since WP and RT share the same kernel it would sound reasonable that developing an app for these new platforms would be easier than it would have been for windows phone 7.

Especially on wp8 since there is now some support that allows voip apps to integrate into the dialer so when you send/receive calls it looks virtually the same as through your carrier. And so that also means the app doesn't have to stay running in the background like it would for ios and android, which saves battery.

As of 1st Q this year Windows phone had 2.7% of the market as opposed to 81.1 for Android and 15.2 for iOS. I'm sure a lot of the Android numbers reflect tablet use, and not simply phones.

If you have a limited budget for developed, into what OS would you put that? I'm not saying that the Windows phone platform isn't important to those that chose it, it would just seem that there are not yet a great deal of people that have done so. I guess we will have to wait.

Personally, if a particular application or programme were important to me, I would choose an operating system that ran it. not hope that a developer would eventually come out with something that worked on what I happened to choose. I realise that in many business situations, you don't get to choose the phone that the company 'issues" to you, Blackberry users are in the same boat. One big problem is that there are not a lot of manufacturers that offers phones with Windows. if those don't "move", then they will go with an OS that does or risk providers not carrying their handsets.

That is a good tip, if you only have ONE important application.

However, I've used iPhones, various Android phones, and now a Nokia 1020. And I'm NOT going back to the horrible world of iOS or Android anytime soon.

We run Lumia phones as well and are so happy with these. And we would certainly prefer a native 3CX app rather than some third-party app.

Well...Windows phone is up to 2.9% of the market as of 3Q 2014. http://www.idc.com/prodserv/smartphone-os-market-share.jsp

I see that they are selling a couple of unlocked models in their stores now. Since the Nokia acquisition they are moving ahead, but not as fast as I'm sure they would like to.

we are also considering to buy a 3CX license to upgrade our ISDN PBX, but since there's no support for WP8.1 we will have to wait...

As a 3CX partner I also have a WP8 phone and love it. And when I do demos, people always look at me funny when I have to break out an Android phone to show them the app. Development issues aside, it just seems odd that the leading WIndows PBX doesn't have an app that will work on WP8.

There are more than 30.000 views for this thread and in compare more than 100.000 downloads for Android client, which makes roughly %20 interest on WP8 client.

Isn't that enough for 3CX client developer team to give a chance to WP8? Eventough Microsoft is supporting "universal app" and "voip api"...

Another request to have a 3CX client for windows phone. It should be very easy for 3CX to produce such a client since they already master windows technologies.

Some of the stats thrown around in this thread are very misleading.. If 3CX bothered to look at the stats in countries it does well in, they would be quite surprises at the results - some have WP8 even outselling IOS..

To be honest, I don't think its the issue - its idealistic. We had one of the 3cx guys in a training course (which was otherwise quite good) spout off about how Windows Phone couldn't tell you how long you'd just been on a call.

Despite being incorrect, and to be honest irrelevant anyway (who really cares how long I was on a call), it goes to show that its simply not of interest to some of those in play... irrespective of multiple studies showing 95%+ of those who bother to make the switch actually preferring WP8's interface...

Windows Phone 8.1 natively supports correct audio assignment and has a VOIP API built in. It's what they run Skype on and that works fine. (Nick Galea's post was in reply to me).

Windows 10 will be replacing Windows Phone and RT and will run on Intel and ARM architecture. This should mean that we should expect to see a common 3CX app for all Microsoft devices. I'm not sure that it couldn't be done now though with a little effort on 3CX's behalf. Perhaps 3CX aren't using the Preview for Developers for Windows Phone 8.1?

I will reply to Nick on the Blog though and see what reply I get.
