Yealink T40G vs Grandstream GXP-1782

I have been evaluating both Yealink T40Gs and Grandstream GP-1782s - I wondered what other forum members think? I want to stick to models with a 1Gbps switch port as I need to daisy chain PCs off most of them.

• Very similar price point (circa £50 GBP + VAT)
• T40G feels slightly better finished / more robust. This could be skin deep only though.
• T40G has a smaller LCD display which does feel cramped compared to GXP-1782
• GXP-1782 has 6 BLF / programmable keys compared to 3 on T40G
• Quirk of GXP-1782 means that the first two speed dial keys need to be programmed with same extension number (??)
• With the standard 3CX v16 Grandstream template it appears that all of the calls I make are "SD" - I have not looked in to this further yet - the codecs are as per defaults - PCMU, PCMA, G7222, G729A/B. Am I missing something in the configuration?

I will be deploying about 16 units.

Yes and no, the GXP17xx series is a pretty robust phones as are all GS phones. I have one in my lab and it feels very solid to me and the look is very professional.

The screen on the GXP17xx is used differently, so it does feel a bit cramped anyway.

Actually, the GXP1782 as 8 BLF and you can create multiple pages of BLF when more than 8 is configured.

The two first key are configured via the template, you have nothing to do. This is needed so calls can be made, you need at least a line key. Same for the Yealink.

You just need to reorder the codecs and use G722 or G729 first, those have higher quality than PCMU. I use G722 which is a wide-band codec and it shows the little HD during calls.

Thanks - will try that. Strange that the Yealink template have the codecs in the same order (PCMU first) and yet the T40Gs I have default to HD calls.

I think this is simply the default for all 3CX templates since PCMU/PCMA are the most common and compatible codecs.

If you have an abundance of free time to deal with quirks, Grandstream. If you want it to just work, Yealink. I wanted to like Grandstream because of the price point and US support but if you look in the forums you'll see way more issues with Grandstream than Yealink. Most recently there was the VLAN bug for the pass-thru port which would have bit you, plus some DST weirdness which @Frederick Marcoux is familiar with. No such troubles with Yealink

Yeah -_- but this is due to 3CX templates, not the phone itself. On my UCM, it works perfectly.

Understood. But the OP is asking for opinions on which phone to use with 3CX and historically Yealink phones have been supported longer and with less problems than Grandstream.

To be honest I'm now leaning towards the Yealink T42S. It has a larger screen than the T40G (still slightly smaller than GXP) and is £5GBP more than the GXP1782.

Only 6 BLF/speed dial keys but that's fine in our environment.

Just as an update- I ordered 18x Yealink T42S and am very happy so far.

Good choice! Hopefully Grandstream can do a better job on their templates or communicating the reasons behind template changes to 3CX because these issues ruin what is otherwise a decent budget phone.

I totally agree. They keep throwing the ball between them on who's providing what.

The support was almost better with the unofficial templates.

I might even buy a Yealink to get used to them since I have issues with GS phones (yes, I know, you told me).
