Introduction
3CX offers direct integration with DATEV, enabling seamless communication between the two platforms. The connector reports incoming and outgoing calls, as well as call journal activities performed via the 3CX Windows App V20 (V5.5 and later), directly to DATEV software.
The integration supports DATEV Dial functionality, ensuring calls initiated from the 3CX Windows App are automatically reported and logged within DATEV.
System Requirements
- Installed 3CX WindowsApp (V5.5 and later)
- Installed 3CX TAPI Driver (installed with the 3CX-DATEV Option, on the DATEV PC
- Installed DATEV Pro (DATEV Workstation Pro as of V.5)
- Installed program DATEV Telephony Basis (from V.1.2)
Installing the 3CX TAPI Driver & DATEV Connector
In order to deploy the 3CX - DATEV integration to your users, install and provision the 3CX Windows App.
Afterwards, install and enable 3CX TAPI under Settings → Integration → "Install TAPI Driver” or download from here
Choose "Install DATEV- Connecter (Optional)”
Next, decide if you want to use TAPI / 3CX DATEV Connector on a Single User (Single TAPI) or Multiple Users (MultilineTAPI)
Add the information of the User/s (Extension Number & User Name).
Start the installation by clicking on "Install”.
After Completion, press "Finish” as instructed by the Installation wizard.
3CX - DATEV Connector Wizard
After a successful installation of the 3CX TAPI Driver (with DATEV), the 3CX-DATEV Connector automatically launches the Setup Wizard on first startup.
The Setup Wizard consists of four steps:
1. Choose your Language.
2. Choose your 3CX-TAPI Line
3. The 3CX - DATEV Connector will automatically detect DATEV Arbeitsplatz and DATEV Telefonie (SDD - Contacts).
4. 3CX - DATEV Connector Overview - final step.
Tray Operation
After setup, the 3CX DATEV Connector runs in the system tray. The tray icon shows the application logo with a colored status ring:
Color | Meaning |
Fully operational - both TAPI and DATEV connected
Partial - one component missing (3CX TAPI or DATEV)
Disconnected - neither TAPI nor DATEV available |
Tray Menu (Right-Click)
Call History
Double-click the tray icon to open the Call History (default).
This can be changed in Settings to open the Status Overview instead.
Incoming Calls
When an incoming call is detected:
- The 3CX-DATEV Connector looks up the caller's phone number in the DATEV Central Data Service
- A Caller Popup appears (if enabled) showing:
- Call direction (INCOMING CALL)
- Contact name
- Phone Number
- Contact source (Recipients / Institution)
- When the call is answered, the Contact Pop-Up closes automatically
- Should multiple contacts match the number, a "Contact Re-Selection” Dialogue appears after the call connects (3s default - configurable)
- When the call ends, a Call Journal Pop-up appears (configurable), where you can enter a note and send it to DATEV
Caller Popup Modes
Mode | Behavior |
Form | Shows only the form pop-up |
Ballon | Shows only the Windows balloon notification |
Configurable via Settings → Caller Pop-Up.
Call Journaling
When a call ends and a DATEV contact is matched:
- The Call Journal Popup appears, showing the contact name and call duration
- Enter a note in the text area (max 2,000 characters)
- Click ”Send to DATEV” to send the journal entry to DATEV
- Click ”Cancel” or leave the note empty to skip
Call History (Re-Journaling)
The 3CX - DATEV Connector keeps recent DATEV-matched calls in memory for re-journaling:
- Open via Tray Menu → "Call History”
- By default, it shows recent "Inbound” calls - optionally you can add "Outbound” calls
- Select an entry and click "Send to DATEV" or double-click to open the journal pop-up
- Journal status:”🟢” (sent) & "🟠” (pending)
- Previously journaled entries are dimmed and cannot be resent
Note: Only calls with a resolved DATEV Contact are stored. Outbound Call History is disabled by default.
Contact Matching
The Connector matches phone numbers using a normalised suffix comparison:
Incoming Number | Normalized | Last 10-Digits |
+49 89 12345678 | 498912345678 | 8912345678 |
0049 89 12345678 | 498912345678 | 8912345678 |
089/12345678 | 08912345678 | 8912345678 |
All three formats match the same DATEV contact.
Last-Contact Selection
When a caller has multiple DATEV contacts matching their number, the 3CX - DATEV Connector remembers the last-selected contact:
- If the same number calls again within the configured window (default: 60 minutes), the previously-selected contact is prioritised.
