Hosting 3CX PBX Phone System in Microsoft Azure

Introduction

Easily host and manage 3CX in your own Microsoft Azure, managing all your servers from one account and leveraging your Microsoft Azure knowledge to stay in full control of your 3CX install.  You will need to have a Microsoft Azure account before you start 3CX deployment.  You can get one here Microsoft Azure page , click on “Get started with Azure”.

Step 1 - Get your Azure Subscription ID

  1. Open the Azure Portal and search for “Subscriptions”. Click on the “Subscriptions” result under “Services”.


  1. Get the Subscription ID:


  1. Authenticate the email account that has access to the subscription.
  2. Setup your project in Azure. You will need this to complete the deployment procedure.

Step 2 - Configure SSH Access

  1. Search and select “SSH Keys”.
  2. Select/Create a resource group, select your preferred region and enter a name for the SSH Key pair.
  3. Create it and then download the file.  Save the file somewhere safe as it cannot be downloaded again.
  4. The username for the SSH user will be set to: pbxexpress
  5. This step can only be done after 3CX has been deployed! In your Azure Portal search for “Virtual Machines” and click on your 3CX instance.  Go to “Networking” > “Network Settings” > “Create port rule” > “Inbound port rule” and set:
  • “Service” to “SSH”
  • “Source” to “IP address of your choice”
  • “Protocol” to “TCP”

Step 3 - Deploy 3CX

  1. Create a 3CX customer account here
  2. Select “Self Hosted (Private Cloud)” and then click “Next”
  3. Choose your 3CX FQDN and click “Next”
  4. Set your extension digit length and click “Next”
  5. Set your System Preferences and click “Next”
  6. From the drop-down list choose “Azure” and click “Authenticate”
  7. “Consent” and click “Accept” to permit 3CX to access specific resources in your organization to set up the machine
  8. Give your Azure machine a name and use the drop-down list to select your Azure Project.
  9. Choose your region, SSH Key pair and machine type. Then click “Next”
  10. 3CX will now be deployed.

Re-deploying your 3CX?

  1. Login to the customer portal
  2. Go to “My Systems” find the subscription you want to have hosted and select "Install"
  3. Select “Self Hosted (Private Cloud)” and click “Next”
  4. Select your extension digit length and on the next screen set your System Preferences then click on “Next”.  These settings will be overridden if you restore a backup.
  5. Select “Azure” from the drop-down list and click on “Authenticate”.
  6. Click “Yes” to upload your existing 3CX configuration backup and click “Next”
  7. Give your Azure machine a name and use the drop-down list to select your project, region and machine type. Click “Next”
