Emergency Numbers
Introduction
When an emergency number is dialed, the PBX prioritizes this number and ignores any outbound, in-office or out-of-office rules.
Configuring an Emergency Number
To configure emergency numbers, go to Admin > System > Emergency.
- Click on “Add” and specify:
- “Rule Name” i.e. Police, Fire etc.
- “Number” the emergency number to be dialed.
- Now decide whether this emergency number will be system wide or limited to a department or number of extensions
- System Wide - Do nothing
- If limited to extension or department, specify accordingly in the “Calls from departments” option.
- Now configure on which SIP trunk the number should be dialed. Set at least one mandatory first route and up to 4 alternative routes for calls to the emergency number.
- In “Outbound Caller ID” you can optionally set a custom entry to override the default caller ID.
- Click on “Save”
- In the USA you can take advantage of E911 Geolocation, when using a VoIP provider that supports it. You can find the details here.
Notifications
In the ‘Notifications’ tab, configure notification options when an emergency number is called:
- “Send email to one or more email addresses separated by commas” - enable and specify one or more email addresses; do not use spaces.
- “Send chat notification to” - enable and select to notify the caller's Department Managers, all the caller's Department's members, or Managers across all Departments via chat message.
- “Play announcement (Extension/Ring Group)” - call an extension or ring group and playback the selected audio announcement.
- Click “OK” to save the notification options.
- You can customize the email notification text in Admin > Advanced > Templates > Email Templates, then choose "Emergency call" from the dropdown.
