Installing 3CX PBX from VULTR Marketplace

Introduction

If you have all your servers in VULTR it makes sense to run your 3CX from the same account and stay in full control of your 3CX install.

Preflight Check

Before deploying the 3CX marketplace image it is advisable to have two things preconfigured that will be used during the deployment, a Firewall Group and an SSH key.

Firewall Group

By default there is no Firewall Group or rules set on a new account. That means that any instance deployed will have any ports listening publicly exposed.

Ports required by 3CX

  1. To add a new Firewall Group, go to https://my.vultr.com/firewall/add/
  2. Enter a name for your Firewall Group and click “Add Firewall Group”
  3. After the Firewall Group is created you are redirected to the Inbound rules page. Here you need configure the ports required by 3CX, as shown in the screenshot.
  4. If you are enabling SSH access, ensure that you set your IP as a source.

SSH Key (Optional)

An SSH key is used to authenticate to your server instead of a password. Even though optional, it is recommended to be set up for security purposes. Click here to learn how to generate an SSH key.

After generating the SSH key you can add it to your account by navigating to the SSH Keys page. Enter a name to identify the key and then copy your public key into the textarea. Then click “Add SSH key”.

Step 1: Deploy from the Marketplace

  1. To open the 3CX Marketplace page click here for V20 deployment.
  2. Click on the “Deploy” button. If you are not logged in you will be prompted to login.
  3. Select the region in which your instance will be deployed (typically the closest to you).
  4. Select a machine type. We would recommend a minimum of 2vCPU/2GB Ram/60GB disk.
  5. Select an SSH key. (Optional but recommended)
  6. Select a Firewall Group. If this option is not shown it means there are no Firewall Groups.
  7. Setup a friendly hostname and add any tags you wish to use and click “Deploy Now”.

Step 2: Upload 3CX configuration

Once your 3CX Droplet is created you will need to upload the configuration file to complete the installation.

  1. If you have not already done so, go to http://www.3cx.com/install/
  2. Login with your 3CX account and during installation select “On-Premise”. At the end of the process, you will be given the configuration file. You can copy the link or download the file. For more information see Installing 3CX
  3. Copy the “Droplet IPv4 address” of your new droplet and open it in a browser with port 5015, e.g.http://public_ip:5015.
  4. Now either upload the file using the upload option or provide the link to the configuration file.
