How to Configure Snom M500 DECT

Snom M500, M55, M58 models

Supported Handsets: Snom M55 handset and Snom M58 deskset

Step 1: Factory Reset your Snom DECT System

Base: 

  1. Press and hold the LINK button on the base station for at least 20 seconds then release, all LEDs should now turn off.
  2. Press the LINK button 6 times to enter reset mode. The Power LED should now be off, the SIP LED should be off, and the LINK LED should be alternating between yellow/green.
  3. Press and hold the LINK button on the base station for at least 2 seconds to confirm the reset and then release.

The base should now proceed to reset. More detailed instructions can be found here.

Handset / Deskset:

  1. From the main screen, press the middle Menu key.
  2. Type ##**793.

In a few moments the hand/desk set will show “Done” on screen to confirm reset. More detailed instructions can be found here.

Step 2: Upgrade your Snom DECT Base to the Required Firmware

Ensure that your DECT device and handsets are running on the latest firmware from the manufacturer’s site here. Note: The minimum required version is v1.14.6 or higher.

To upgrade the base:

  1. Log into your base using default credentials admin/admin.
  2. Go to Configuration> Firmware Upgrade > Manual Upgrade.
  3. In “Base Filename” click “Choose File” to choose your firmware .img file.
  4. Click “Update from File” to begin the upgrade process.

Step 3: Add a Snom DECT Base in 3CX and Assign Users to the Handsets

  1. Go to “Admin > Voice and Chat”.
  2. Click on “+Add DECT/FXS”.
  3. Select your model and enter the device’s MAC address then click ”Next”.
  4. Select the provisioning method according to your installation type:
  1. If your instance is in the cloud or outside of the office, choose “Connect via SBC / router phone” and choose the one local to your device, then click “Next”.
    Important: The “Router Phone” or SBC must already be up and running.
  2. If your installation is on-premises, choose “Local LAN / VPN” and choose your system FQDN or local IP, then click “Next”.
  1. Assign your users and click “Add DECT base station”.

Assign Users to your DECT Through the 3CX Web Client

You will be able to assign more users after the set-up. Restart your device (unplug/plug). Once restarted, your DECT will be automatically provisioned.

If you have disabled RPS: a pop-up window will appear with the “Provisioning URL”. You need to copy this and enter it in the DECT base station web interface.

Point your web browser to the device’s IP address and log in with the default username and password “admin”.

Go to “Configuration” > “Provisioning” > “Server URL” and enter the provisioning link copied earlier.

Press “Save” at the bottom of the page, and restart your device. Once restarted, your DECT base will be automatically provisioned.

Important Note: After provisioning is completed, you must reboot the DECT base at least one additional time for all the settings to apply.

Step 4: Pairing your Handsets

  1. Log into the base from your 3CX Admin Console > Voice & Chat > Snom DECT M500, using the 3CX provided Web Console URL and Web Console Username/Password.
  2. Go to Status > Cordless Registrations, and type a number in the “Handset ID” box, starting with 1 as your first ID.
  3. Type the IPEI code currently shown on your unpaired handset’s screen.
  4. Click “Register” and give the base and handset a few moments to pair up.
  5. Proceed with the next handset as above until you’ve added all your handsets.

Step 5: Upgrade your Snom Handset to the Required Firmware

Please obtain the latest firmware from the manufacturer’s website here.

Note: The minimum required version is v1.14.6 or higher.

  1. Log into the base from your 3CX Admin Console > Voice & Chat > Snom DECT M500, using the 3CX provided Web Console URL and Web Console Username/Password.
  2. Go to Configuration> Firmware Upgrade > Manual Upgrade
  3. In Handset Filename click Choose File to choose your firmware .img file
  4. Click “Install Handset File” to begin the upgrade process of the M55 handset
  5. The same can be done with Cordless deskset File name for M58 deskset
  6. The upgrades trigger automatically. To monitor their progress, you can navigate to Status > Cordless Status and see the progress for each paired handset. Once the automatic upgrade is complete the handsets will reboot and will be ready to use.

Note: Your Snom M500 uses unified firmware.  Once handsets are paired and upgraded, any future base firmware update will automatically upgrade the handsets. No more separate handset firmware uploads!

Known Limitations

  • No Alert-Info.
  • No BLF.
  • No CTI.
  • No support for Paging Groups (incl. Multicast).
  • Special Characters in name or password are not allowed
  • Cannot park on shared parking spaces (SP0), only in parking orbit (*00).
