Step 1: Factory Reset the Snom Base Station and Handsets

Reset Snom M300, M400, M700 and M900 base station to factory defaults

  1. Press and hold for at least 10 seconds the reset key.
  2. After restarting, your base station will be successfully reset.

  1. Press the “Menu” key.
  2. Navigate to “Settings”“Reset settings” → click “Yes” to reset settings.
  3. Enter PIN 0000 and press “OK” to confirm.
  4. After restarting, your snom handset will be reset.

Step 2: Upgrade the Base Station to the Required Firmware

Validate Snom Firmware Version

Ensure that your snom DECT base is running the required firmware. This is required prior to provisioning the phone. In order to check the firmware of your Snom DECT system:

  1. Point your web browser to the Dect phone’s IP address and login to your account (default user/password: admin/admin).
  2. Navigate to Home/Status > Firmware Version” and compare the Version and Branch to the latest available firmware version for your DECT device.
  3. Now go to Firmware Update” and in the:
  1. “Firmware update server address” field enter http://dect.snom.com
  2. “Required Version” enter the latest available firmware as per Snom’s support website, for example at the creation of the guide the latest firmware is 450 and in the “Required branch” the number 13.
  1. After placing a valid FW number press “Save/Start Update”.
  2. The firmware upgrade will start after several minutes and the LED on the base station will start to flash red.

Step 3: Add a Snom DECT Base in 3CX and Assign Users to the Handsets

  1. Go to “Admin > Voice and Chat”.
  2. Click on “+Add DECT/FXS”.
  3. Select your model and enter the device’s MAC address then click ”Next”.
  4. Select the provisioning method according to your installation type:
  1. If your instance is in the cloud or outside of the office, choose “Connect via SBC / router phone” and choose the one local to your device, then click “Next”.
    Important: The “Router Phone” or SBC must already be up and running.
  2. If your installation is on-premises, choose “Local LAN / VPN” and choose your system FQDN or local IP, then click “Next”.
  1. Assign your users and click “Add DECT base station”.

 Step 4: Assign Users to the Handsets

  1. Now you need to assign the users to handsets.
  2. Click on “Add DECT Base Station” to save your settings. You will be able to assign more users after the set-up.

Step 5: Enter the Provisioning URL in the DECT Web Interface

  1. A pop-up window will appear with the “Provisioning URL”. You need to copy this URL.
  2. Login to the DECT base station web interface and enter it under “Management > Configuration > Configuration Server Address”.
  3. Save and reboot.

Step 6: Register the Snom Handsets & Assign them to Users

Supported Snom Handsets: Snom M25, Snom M65, Snom M70, Snom M80, Snom M85, Snom M90

  1. Now you need to register the handsets and assign them to users based on the numerical order you set them up during the config
  2. Press the menu button on the handset. (If its a M25 handset, press the middle button of the navigation circle)
  3. From the menu, go to “Connectivity” and press the middle button of the navigation circle once more.
  4. Select “Register”.
  5. Once prompted for the “Access Code” – enter “0000” (Zero Zero Zero Zero) followed by the “OK” button.
  6. When successfully paired, the handsets will be automatically be assigned to the users.
  7. Repeat the steps for all handsets you wish to register to the base station.

Step 7: Upgrading your Snom Handsets Firmware

In order to upgrade your device’s firmware your handset must be connected to the DECT base station as an extension. Therefore this step can only be performed after the base is upgraded and provisioned, and after the handsets have been paired. In order to check the firmware of your Snom handset:

  1. Press the “Menu” key.
  2. Navigate to “Settings” >> “Status” >> “Handset status”.
  3. “SW version” indicates the device’s current firmware.
  4. Point your web browser to your phone’s IP address.
  5. Login to your account (default user: admin /password: can be found in your 3CX DECT page admin/admin).
  6. Navigate to Firmware Update” tab.
  7. In the “Firmware update server address” field enter “http://dect.snom.com”. The connected handset model will be displayed in the “Type” field (in this example M65)
  8. In the field “Required Version” enter 450 and in the “Required branch” field enter the number of the latest firmware 13.
    Note: Before performing the upgrade, the handset must be placed in the charging cradle and must be charged over 50%.
  9. After placing a valid FW number press “Start Update”.

Limitations/Warnings

  • Static Alert-Info Ringer for External and Queue calls.
  • Cannot Park on Shared parking spaces (SP0), only in parking orbit (*00).
  • Special Characters in name or password are not allowed
  • No BLF
  • No CTI
  • Cannot be configured for multicast paging.
  • Snom M300 is marked as EOL by the vendor.
  • Snom M700 is EOL. Follow this guide on how to manually configure the Snom M700 DECT phone.
