Could you please explain the relationship between the 'Edition' vs 'Simultaneous Calls' vs 'Max Users'
Is (Australian/all) hosting by 3xc limited to"MAX. USERS" in this table or is it only a recommendation?

https://www.3cx.com/ordering/pricing/hosted-info/

For instance, we have currently have an 8SC Pro license - 8 Simultaneous calls. We have 100ish users on our on-premise 3CX system...we are happy - no recording, no meetings, just a few ring groups and call flows.

According to this, hosting is A$200 per year, with the 1st year free ...

There is no mention of number of "users...."

If I look at https://www.3cx.com/ordering/pricing/ and dial up to 100 'users' forces the subscription to the 32 Simultaneous calls license - we dont want or need this ...

Is (all) licensing now limited to the number of Simultaneous calls AND the Number of Users?
edit: Is 3cx looking to enforce/limit 'Number of users' ?

edit: After doing some more reading, I found this ...
https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/max-users.113530/
..which answers the max users question ....

Is it possible to 'mix' the Instance and hosted pricing? https://www.3cx.com/ordering/pricing/hosted-info/
ie. Could we pay A$300 per annum for a 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM instance but have the 8SC Licence?

There is no relation between users and calls on 3CX in our code or in the license. If the users are not making any calls, for example you have a hotel with limited use of the phones you can possibly get away with an 8 SC license. If on the other hand you have office users logging in to the webclient then probably the host machine for an 8 SC license is not enough as it is meant to be for up to 25 users. If you have 100 users and dont want to upgrade your license you will have to host yourself on Digital Ocean or continue on premise. If you have call flows you have to host yourself anyways, so make it in digital ocean give the machine some power and you should be fine. We are soon adding Vultr too which has machines in Australia

Nick,

Apreciate the promt response....
Although we are a business (Archiectural Firm), we dont use the phones much any more. Just mainly for inbound calls and the occasional outbound. I was also mistaken about Call Flows ... just a few time of day rules...nothing fancy.

We are currenty configuring (3) SBCs on our 3 sites, so once we are happy that they talk to our onsite 3cx (as per the doumentation) we will migrate to "hosted by 3cx" - I see it as really good value for money.

In terms of upgrading, is it possible to upgrade pro-rata if we feel that the system is struggling with the number of users? ie. after 2 months go from 8SC to 16 SC and go from the $200 option to the $300 option?

We also have a seperate issue with our reseller (I may message you directly if that is ok with you.)

@KaveMan yes of course you can upgrade at a later stage your key and also your machine will be resized to the new specs. Also you will not pay the full price as portal will remove the months you have already hosted with us and you will calculate only the remaining ammound with the new key until the end of the year so you will pay only the difference for the hosting.
Keep in mind that 1st year is for free ;)

I'm going to jump in here with a question on simultaneous call licensing. A while back, when first getting into 3cx I took all you online recorded tutorials along with some live ones (I think those are recorded now) and we dis cussed what is a "call" for the purposes of licensing, how it was affected by forwarding, and trunking 2 systems together, and even video with and without audio only. I thought I had a pretty good grasp of it, especially since it wasn't very different than how legacy systems worked.

But now I'm not so sure. Maybe I misunderstood, maybe something changed and I missed it, regardless I'm hoping for some clarification.

Obviously a call going over a SIP trunk to/from the outside world is a "call", and a call forwarded to an outside number through an extension or IVR is 2 "calls" (one in and one out). But I had thought that ext to ext calls, with no outside party involved, were not considered a "call". Is this incorrect? Are ext to ext calls also counted as "calls" for the purpose of licensing?

Thanks

I'm like 99% sure that a call between 2 internal extensions is counted as a single call.

Yes correct a call between 2 extension is 1 sim call. Also a call to vmail is considered a sim call or a call to Conference extension is considered a sim call.
