In the field at the top of the web client, where it says "Enter Name or Number..." we are having an issue where if you enter a name and press enter, it will attempt to call that "name" even though there is no number associated to it. This for some reason causes our sip trunk to have issues. The only way to call someone from here is by entering an actual phone number and clicking enter or after you search for someone's contact name, you then double click the name to call.

An example of this is we have an employee named Valerie. We had a user type in "val" and when her name popped up they hit enter. The call failed to "val" and it crashed the sip trunk.
Even if the user types3cx error.PNG in the full contact name and presses enter, it will still do this.

When this happens, nobody inside our organization can make an outbound call until we refresh the registration of the sip trunk.

Any ideas on how to resolve this? Possibly with an outbound rule? 3cx error.PNG

To get a bit more information first:

• What SIP Provider is the SIP Trunk from? Is it a 3CX Supported Provider?

• What version of 3CX are you running? Check under "Dashboard >> Information >> License".

• How are your existing Outbound Rules configured?

  • SIP Provider is Level 3 - they are not listed as a 3CX supported provider

  • Running version 16.0.9

  • Outbound rule that all phones are using has no rules applied. Basically just has all outgoing calls going to Route 1 which is level 3. Routes 2-5 are set to block calls. Strip digits are all set to 0.

Since it's an unsupported provider that has not been tested with 3CX, I would recommend that you do utilize the Outbound Rules to work around this as you already mentioned. Just have the Outbound Rule restricted to only numbers and possibly the + sign like so:

The above will only match calls made to numbers starting with a digit or the + sign.
