I purchased new phones and they have verion.48 firmware on them. The 3cx website says version .35 so I downloaded the version 35 and told the phone to update firmware. Selected the file from 3cx which should be version 35. The phone says it is updating but reboots and still has version 48. This would not be a problem but have the phones randomly dropping calls and the files say the phones sent the bye command. Any suggestions on what the problem might be?

Hello,

You appear to have purchased a newer revision of the phone that comes with newer firmware than what we support.

So you might have some issues with it until Grandstream releases the next update.

The good news is that they almost ready to release it, so you may not have to wait for too long, perhaps a month or so.

Thats all well and good but the phones are randomly dropping calls. I have tried to download the firmware from the 3cx site for this unit and have tried to upgrade (in my case down grade) the firmware but the phone stays at version 48. I did a manual firmware where you select the file and it seams to do the update but still will not go back. This phone is listed as supported on 3cx that's one of the reasons it was selected. How do you suggest down grading the firmware?

So you seem to believe that the firmware is causing the call drops. Have you tested with another phone, or the web client/mobile app to confirm it's the phone and not something else?

As far as the downgrade question that is best directed to Grandstream forums/support

Indeed the model was fully supported at the time of release.

So if the manufacturer later released a different hardware revision and did not supply us with a firmware update then this is entirely on them to remedy - I just want to make clear that the firmware releases are 100% a matter of the manufacturer.

PS: As mentioned earlier, we also informed them about this, but we do not control when the release will be made. As a Grandstream customer, it's best to contact them directly to be advised on how to proceed.

For anyone else reading this, I also have the same issue with GXP2170 phones that arrived with .46 version ( 3CX supports to .35). Grandstream has several firmware releases past the supported version. They also stated that any new gxp series phone should not be downgraded back to the .35 supported release on 3CX due to issues it will cause with the phone.

The technician also stated that it is not their fault that 3CX is behind in certifying firmware versions. Seems to be a lot of blame/back and forth about the issue and no resolution. Seems to be a lack of communication between vendors.

Grandstream likes to blame 3CX but it's actually their own QA and dev team that are slow and shitty so new firmwares always have new bugs, therefore 3CX doesn't validate them all.

Look at Yealink and Fanvil, they don't play the blame game. They know the phone firmwares is their job, not 3CX's.

Generally we have a good back and forth with supported manufacturers, and you can be 100% certain that when they submit a new version to us it will be released almost immediately - provided no deal-breaking issues crop up.

I don't think that what that engineer told you is representative of reality - and I would go out on a limb to say that they are also misrepresenting Grandstream if they said such a thing - specifically because the manufacturer is the one carrying out the certification.

Ignore what you were told, and allow Grandstream some time to complete their testing - we will release the firmware very shortly after they provide it to us.

Thank you for the clarification. Hopefully the information we received was not entirely right. It is frustrating that we are forced to run on an unsupported version now though as no new phones can be purchased with the old version of firmware that is supported, and they cannot be downgraded - which we understand, is a Grandstream isssue.
