I'm very new to setting up my first 3CX instance. I've never played with a PBX before, so my experience level is low.

I have the latest version (16) running on a Debian VM, hosted on prem. I have a local SIP provider (Fibre Noire) that uses IP based restriction/auth only. All looks fine in 3CX, and the provider is saying they see successful connectivity. Firewall check is passed.

Thing is I can't get inbound or outbound calls to work. I've setup rules for both and no luck. Client on my cell phone simply shows Temporarily Unavailable when attempting a outbound call. Inbound calls I get a provider message about the number not in service. Are there proper logs in 3CX anywhere? The GUI logs are hilariously basic and useless, simply showing the outgoing calls as not answered.

My friend, setting up 3CX for the first time, you'd have done well to go with a supported SIP provider.

Here is how to gather logs:

https://www.3cx.com/docs/collecting-logs-for-3cx-support/

You should set to verbose, restart services and then make a test call then review your event/activity logs.

Then, I would also run a wireshark capture from the logging, make a test call then use Wireshark to see what you're sending to your provider.

Make use of the 3CX Activity Log. That shows the call flow through the PBX. It has various levels for more, or less detail. That log will show you exactly what number you are sending your provider.

I chose the SIP provider before the PBX actually, since they're our ISP and well respected locally. I went with 3CX for the test simply to get something up and running fast to evaluate it as a potential PBX for my office.

I did find the proper logging, totally missed the tile for it before. I have a lot more logging to use now so I'll start there.

Hi James,

3CX is easy to learn and use, especially when using supported providers that have ready made templates.

In your case it will get tricky because you will need to know some SIP basics and also need to know a number of parameters that your provider will give you. Effectively what you are required to do now is to build your own template for your specific provider, so you can either use this as a learning experience or hire one of the many 3CX Partners that can help set this up for you (at least the SIP Trunk part)

If you choose to go at it by yourself (which is of course respectable), you should probably start by creating a trunk. Since this is an IP based provider, create a new trunk using these options and enter your main number. From there, you should at least have incoming calls towards an extension of your choosing. If this fails, you will have to read the logs for each attempt and try to address the reason that gives a rejection. The Inbound Parameters will probably a place you need to tweak

Our 3CX Academy will also be a valuable tool in helping you learn the system overall, and this module here might be more relevant to the task you need to complete:

I am afraid you need to use a supported SIP trunk provider. If you want to use the current sip trunk provider, you best call them up and find a supported PBX and ask them to troubleshoot the setup...
