Hi there, for reasons i wont go into i missed the critical update that would allow the PBXs i manage to talk to the activation server, and now have many left unable to be updated.

All of my systems run on the Microsoft Azure cloud, and work for clients spread across the country. i am looking for a way to reset the azure VMs but without changing the settings i have defined for the VMs, like a factory reset or something similar. is there a way to do this? i see that there are re-deploy options in Azure, but i don't know if that's the same thing.

I know i could simply delete the virtual machines and remake them, but i worry about that breaking connections that i can't easily re-establish.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Regarding your question, and depending on the current version of your systems, if they are below the Update 7 build 312, you don't have much choice but to take backups, download them, redeploy, and restore the backup.

If on update 7 312 and the subscriptions have not expired, you can update these to the latest version from the management console > updates section.

Hi there, i understand that i'll have to take backups and reinstall them, what i'm unsure about is the exact method of reinstalling 3CX through azure, without deleting and remaking the VM.

If the button for Redeploying the VM will reset the system and let me run the installation process without losing network settings and such on the VM, then that's exactly what i need. i just want to make absolutely sure of this before hand, so i don't disrupt clients any further.

Why not consider deploying to 3CX hosted, where all updates are applied automatically, and we monitor the system 24/7?

https://www.3cx.com/ordering/pricing/hosted-info/

With Azure, the only supported deployment method is with the Azure Marketplace option:https://www.3cx.com/docs/pbx-azure-marketplace/

It should not matter if the systems get a new IP address, as a 3CX FQDN will automatically be updated to the new public IP once installed.
so if i delete and remake my Azure VMs, and upload the 3CX backup for the system, absolutely nothing will be disconnected because of the new network information? like the SBCs for example, will still connect like nothing changed?

If using 3CX FQDNs, these will be up-to-date with the new public IP of the new systems. The SBC will then recoent to the new system once it is available. At most, you may have to restart the SBC machines.

Azure marketplace currently still has the image of update 7 312, as we are awaiting for MS to approve and publish the image for the latest version so after deploying and restoring the backup, you will need to update the system for the management console update section to the latest version of U8.
