Hello All,

Hopefully I'm posting in the correct category. Apologies if that's not the case.

Wanted to ask if anyone has come across an issue we're having with one of our deployments. We have a Hyper-V instance of 3cx running on prem. All is well there and the system works fine. We are wanting to migrate from on prem to Azure. We configured the Azure VM and created a backup in the on prem environment. Both appear to be running version 18.0.3.461. Every time we go through the setup from the publicip:5015 website we run into the same issue towards the end. The backup appears to upload successfully, we go through most setup options fines. However, once we get towards the end of the installation (after creating FQDN and certificates - see pic 1, and just before the CONGRATULATIONS screen) we get to a screen that says restoring backup..... and it just sits there. The installation does not proceed. We once waited for 2 hours with no luck. There was a time we received an error message, see pic 2.

We've tried multiple backups as well. Not sure what the issue is at this point. Thank you for your help in advanced.

You're running out of memory. Probably trying to restore a big backup on a small 1GB RAM VM.

Thank you for your responses.

@jcostlow, I'm creating the VM directly in the Azure portal using the 3cx image available in the marketplace. The VM has 1vCPU and 2GB of RAM. On a few occasions I've completely shutdown the old system prior to starting the restore on the new VM. The last two times we’ve left the old system running during the process. Both approaches yielded the same result.

@ConceptsWeb, a similar thought came to my mind yesterday. I was talking with a colleague and wondering if somehow the backup is too big (only 800MB) or maybe a part of it keeps getting corrupted. I was wondering if it would make sense to do a smaller backup by checking only two options: Licensing key information, FQDN, and Voicemails. Then if that works I need to find a way to bring over the other two: Custom Templates, Logos, Firmwares and Faxes and Recordings. With what you said I could also opt to assign a lot more than 2GB memory to the VM just for the restore process. Worth a shot at this point.

Thanks again!

Thank you @ConceptsWeb! Providing the VM with more RAM did the trick! Thank you both for your help. I really appreciate it.

@drb since you deploy via Azure Marketplace, please ensure also to do the following :

https://www.3cx.com/docs/pbx-azure-marketplace/

Note: Due to a restriction of Azure on waagent and cloud-init on marketplace images, the swap file must be created manually after creation of the machine. SSH to your machine and proceed as explained here.
