We have our 3CX host in a data center connected through a site to site VPN. All of the phones are Yealink T29G. I have configured the multicast paging group and provisioned the phones with the multicast paging group as well. I can see the configuration is updated on the phones. When I dial the multicast page group setup on 3CX, nothing happens. If I go into the phone and configure a BLF as paging and put in the multicast paging information it works, but the configuration on the phone gets overridden on the phone nightly.

Am I doing something wrong in 3CX?

Thank you!

Hello @Ryan Collier

When you create a multicast group in 3CX and then call that groups extension number the request is sent by the PBX to the members of the Group. If you set it up directly on the phone the request is sent directly from the phone. So i suspect that the request cannot traverse the VPN and reach the endpoints on the other side so the paging fails.

You dont really need to have the PBX involved for Multicast paging, its all processed locally.

We just copy/edit the default Yealink template for whatever department needs to receive the pages, add the BLF button and the multicast listening address to the template. Assign the template to those phones and provision that way. No Groups, etc on the PBX itself.

So this is a network issue, not a 3CX issue. Multicast traffic is not typically related over a VPN. You will either need to resolve that, or find another way to page. You can go the custom template option as @Yury Rabinovich describes where you configure the multicast page to originate from the phone. Or you can get something like a Cyberdata Paging adapter which is supported by 3CX. But then technically you still need to do a custom template to get the multicast address into the Yealink phones unless you wanted to go the ugly hack method.
