Hey guys,

I have a potential client with 19 employees and he wants to be 100% softphone which is great. My issue is with QoS, the client was well equipped with a dedicated internet connexion for his previous phone system but since he wants to go all on windows, that connexion becomes useless.

What would be a good way for QoS on softphones since the 3CX will be hosted?

The connection does not become useless, you just don't know how to route the traffic anymore because you don't have the easy way of just making a separate network for the phones and a separate gateway. You absolutely can still route the voice traffic out a separate internet connection, you just need to put your networking hat on.

Additionally if it comes to it, I would calculate whether you actually need to deploy QoS techniques. Use this rather helpful 3CX guide here: https://www.3cx.com/blog/docs/bandwidth-utilised-for-voip/

QoS is something you more commonly see in large to enterprise environments, for 19 users max you maybe able to save yourself some configuration time (but check your bandwidth calculations first).

A couple of other points in regards to your softphone deployment to consider now:

The softphone (unless specifically set) uses the 3CX Tunnel in-built - all SIP and RTP traffic will be tunnelled over a single port (port 5090).

In regards to the local network - if using VLAN's and splitting data/voice traffic your softphones will actually appear on the data network (since they reside on the desktops).
