Version 18 Update 6 Simplified. Modernized.

Hi Bruce,

We still have this but you need the correct user rights to enable it:

Thank you. However, I'm the system owner and that is greyed out and not available as an option. Seems like the System owner should already have that right enabled. Anyway for the system owner to have that enabled?

Not that I'm aware of at the moment, System Owner has fixed rights so you will not be able to change that specific option.

Hi All,

Little question about the ''System Owner" rights. When i logged in to the management console as a admin (i'am logged in with the user what is set up in the Root Credentials section). I want to make a user and give him the system owner rights, only i can't see the options becaus it is not available. The only options i get is the "User" rights and "Manager" rights.

Does someone know what i am doing wrong or can cause this problem?

If you are logged in as the root admin (ie. the user that does not have an extension number) you should be able to do this. Are you certain that this is the correct login? (Try it with Google Chrome)

Hi John,
Thank you for your reply, i already use Chrome. (tried with Edge and got the same problem)
I did it also for other customers wit no problems.. Also i'm positively sure that these are the right credentials, i already reset the password of the root account.

Is there anything else i can check?

Hi Nick,

I suggest that 3CX also has internal OpenVPN services, and OpenVPN provisioning, for most of the existing ip phones are capable of openvpn.

For 10 phones to rely on one phone of SBC, there will be single point of failure.

Can anyone confirm that I am correct in saying that you cannot customize the extension number when creating a router phone?, we usually put phones in remote sites in seperate extension ranges for simplicity, site a 1xxx, site b 2xxx etc..

That came up the other day somewhere here…can you create it in the management console then add the phone?

@petermac In the webadmin view you can not do this right now but we are fixing this very soon

So, just a few comments (and not 'fix' requests), since I'm running old and unsupported Cisco 7960 phones here..... and I'm really trying hard to make this not sound like a rant....it's not intended as one.

First, I REALLY wish 3CX had made this a major version update to make it clear how much was going to change. It's done now, of course, but even after reading the release notes and even being fully aware that I'm still running unsupported phones, I was not expecting some of the issues I am having, with the excellent track record that 3CX has for solid updates within a version.

Second, I didn't see anywhere it being mentioned that the Authentication ID and Authentication password length and strength were going to be ENFORCED by this update. I've been seeing the warning triangle in the admin console, but at least I was able to go in and change things without having to change the AuthID and AuthPW (with the 7960, of course, I have to also change this on the TFTP server and reboot the phone to pick up the configuration, and lately time has just been so tight....). If it was mentioned and I just missed it, that's on me, of course, but I did read through the blog and the Build History, and if it's there I just missed it. If I had known this was going to be the case, I would have rolled out the AuthID and PW changes first to all of our phones, tested that separately, and then updated....

Third, and possibly related to the second one, after the update I've had to add an allow rule for our internal networks in the blacklist configuration because all of the 7960's were hitting the blacklist with 'too many failed authentication attempts' even after making the AuthID and PW changes on the TFTP server for each phone's SIP configuration. Is there a setting in the logging to log the actual attempted credentials to aid in troubleshooting this? I really don't want a blanket whitelisting of our internal LAN for security reasons. Further, our Patton Electronics T1 VoIP gateway ALSO began periodically kicking the blacklist; I whitelisted it, too. Note that the phones all work, and unless blacklisted can all make outgoing calls; even with the Patton gateway being blacklisted we could receive calls over those trunks but only when it wasn't blacklisted. Admittedly, I'm behind on the firmware updates for the Patton, but it's still listed as supported.

Fourth, yes, I know the Cisco 7960 is legacy and not supported; I'm fully aware of that, and that's why I'm not asking for a 'fix' but just for help in finding out how to stretch the life of our installed base until I can afford to replace them all (we're a 501(c)(3) and run on a very tight budget, one that is already stretched by the annual support renewal).

And, last but not least, is there a reasonable rollback method to get back to what was working at Update 5? While I know that's a last resort thing, and wouldn't be recommended or supported, at the moment I have a very annoying phone system on my hands, with extensions continuing to ring for a long time even after a different extension has picked up, and an extension that is somehow hard-forwarding to the user's mobile number (she has both a 7960 deskphone and the iOS app on her iphone; even with the deskphone powered off this is happening and it is not configured in any of the forwarding rules). I took her extension off the ring group for now so that incoming calls can actually route to the IVR.

So sorry that this sounds like a rant; it's really not intended to be a rant, since I am fully aware that I'm running unsupported phones, and I have really liked 3CX over the years we've been customers. But since the update on Saturday I have been overwhelmed chasing these gremlins in what had been a very stable system.

Anyway, thanks for reading.

EDIT: While the event log does show invalid authentication attempts and the credentials that were attempted by those IP addresses, the ones I was seeing did not have that info. Here's an excerpt from the event log (note that all 10.x.y.z and 192.168.x.y addresses are internal to my campus network here):

Hello,

Since the latest update other users are not able to view my active call information, nor can they listen or barge in. They only see "On a call".
1677004750989.png

My Extension is 102, and I set it as "System Owner" as instructed in the manual.
All the users share the same "Main Group" aswell. Other users are able to see other users call info but not mine. I am able to see others call info.

Please advise,

as we slowly roll out SP6, we're noticing the few customers that have T41P phones are unable to load the new firmware after SP6 is installed. the phone cannot correctly communicate with the system. is there a way we can get 3cx to allow the T41-36.83.0.145 T41P firmware to be pushed PRIOR to loading SP6? we don't have remote access to all our customer sites and will have to work with the customer to manually install a firmware update.
The following has worked for me on several systems. After the upgrade, disable PCI Compliance (Security, AntiHacking, SSL/SecureSIP). Click OK to save, but no need to restart services. Then try updating firmware. After firmware updates are done, re-enable PCI Compliance.

Hi

At my opinion, the System Owner should have all rights, also the right to set Status of Others, but right now, only the manager has the right to do that.

Can this be changed back on the next update as most users prefer this option to be off?
Thank you 3CX for implementing this feature, but it definitely shouldn't be on by default as not only is everyone used to creating extensions with it disabled, but 99% of users are not going to want this feature enabled.

that's incredible. it worked! thank you for the suggestion.

One more note on how I got an old ATA to work:

We have an ATA-186 (Cisco) that we use to interface to our Polycom conference system phone. With the Authentication ID length change, this requires a configuration change on the ATA-186. UID0 needs to stay as the extension/user #; set UseLoginID to 1 and fill in the new Authentication ID in the LoginID0 field, but the password stays in the PWD0 field. Repeat for UID1/LoginID1/PWD1 if you use the second port.

Under previous versions with the User ID/extension and the AuthenticationID being the same this was not required.

I tried to search the forums but can`t find anything about this.
How can i enable the "Add to company phonebook" for a contact via the webclient?
It seems missing:

This option is enabled for this extension:

We use this option a lot :)

Hi

how you trying to add a Contact?
Maybe you are already in the Company-Phonebook, i mean you have choosed upper on the right from your Desktop-App Company Phonebook, in this case you don't have a checkbox Company Phonebook.

Hello timm,

I'm in the "recent calls" view.
If I add the contact it's added to my personal addressbook.

From that view I don't have the option to switch the addressbook.
