If I use Amazon Lightsail with a static IP address, am I able to install the SBC Linux version in that same instance? I have expertise in many things, but Linux is not one of them. Thanks.

Do not ever install the SBC on the same instance as the PBX.

Now that's out of the way, the purpose and point of the SBC is to have it installed locally to where the IP-phones are, so they can make use of it to connect to the PBX in a much simplified way. We provide several installation options for the SBC, including getting a router phone that has it build in. Choose what makes sence for your situation and use that.

Yes, I see. Since I am replacing a 42S, let's say I procure a 42U. Do I still need another device/computer running one of the 3 OS options for the SBC, or is there perhaps some other phone model that would have one of the OS built in? Thanks.

Yes there are models that contain the SBC built in, and their SBC can even be shared with a few other phones that don't have one so long as they are all on the same LAN. The T42U is indeed one of them so long as you install the 3CX supplied firmware before you add it to your extension.

Read our guides to see exactly which models can act as "router phones" (not all can do this) and follow the instructions on how to upgrade and provision them to act as your SBC.

Hello, I just want to confirm that if I were to procure an SBC-suitable phone such as a T42U and follow this official 3CX video (for example)…

then the steps of downloading and installing the SBC are basically taken care of automatically, and the SBC resides within the T42U phone. I then would not need to hassle with installing code for Raspberry Pi or Linux onto some other device in my office. This is for my small office set up of less than 10 phones, naturally.

As long as you follow the online manual - the video is an overview, not a full guide - yes things should work in a straight forward manner.
As JohnS mentioned, for the specific phone you need to take the step and update it with the correct firmware before trying to connect it to the 3CX PBX.
