Teams Calling with 3CX integration

Introduction

This guide will help you use the Microsoft Teams desktop application to make and receive calls via 3CX. In order to use this application, it must be enabled by your administrator.

Microsoft Teams "Calls" Feature

Let’s Get Started. Open Microsoft Teams and navigate to “Calls” on the left side navigation bar

Placing a Call

  • Dial the external number or enter the 3CX extension number and hit Call.
  • If a name is entered, the call will not use the 3CX system to establish the call, rather it will just be a Teams to Teams call.
  • A separate window will pop up with the active call. Use the icons in the top right corner during a call as outlined below.

MS Teams in Call Handling Options

Turn Any Call into a Conference

Use the participant icon participant icon to add additional participants to the call. Enter the name or number (either extension or external number) and hit “Enter”.

If you enter an extension number, the user's 3CX extension will ring. Alternatively, if you enter the user’s name, it will ring on their Teams client giving the participant the option to answer with audio-only or elevate to a video call.

Additional Call Options

  • For DTMF options, click the dial pad icon. This is required for example, when calling a company that requests you choose an option by pressing 1 or 2.
  • Click the microphone icon (or Ctrl+Shift+M) to toggle the mute and unmute facility
  • Click Leave (or Ctrl+Shift+B) to end the call

Additional Menu Settings

The Meatballs Menu icon contains multiple additional options including:

  • Device settings. Here you can edit which audio devices your computer is using for the microphone and speaker
  • Call Health. This will show technical data aimed towards video calling
  • Hold. This will place the call on hold. Teams music on hold will be delivered, not 3CX MOH.
  • Turn on live captions. This will create a live written transcription of the call, ideal for the hard of hearing.
