@jonpennell
Irony! It's utterly hilarious! Can you tell me more about the solution where a call is parked indefinitely? I understand the concept, but I'm not 100% sure on the exact commands to put into the BLF key of the phone. The reason I'm going on about this is that the client has asked me again to look into this as it's a real problem for the, stating: "This has caused a couple of recent problems – reception has transferred a call to Emily or Ashley, not knowing that their phone was on DND and the client has been sent straight to a voicemail message & then disconnected."

Either way, I can't ignore this issue, if 3CX can't fix the obvious stuff, I'll either have to hack something to work, or switch them to Asterisk, I don't want to lose this client and I also don't want to get a bad reputation for having what appears to laypeople as a basic or cheap phone system (PBX) that isn't nearly as customisable as I have been selling them on.

@YiannisH_3CX
Thanks for your suggestion. This will help, but it's an extra thing that they need to do, whereas I try to make things as simple as I possibly can for my clients. All they need is a red light to show an extension is busy or on DND, that's it.

still having issues with this, can anyone help?

The receptionist needs to be able to few which extensions have turned on DND (Do Not Disturb).

The client has asked me again to look into this as it's a real problem for them, stating: "This has caused a couple of recent problems – reception has transferred a call to Emily or Ashley, not knowing that their phone was on DND and the client has been sent straight to a voicemail message & then disconnected."

The receptionist needs to know if someone's extension has been set to DND so that they can inform the caller that they're unavailable and the receptionist can give the caller the option to either wait on hold, leave a voicemail on their extension or leave a message with the receptionist.

Can they use the Windows Client for CTI? People on DND show up as red, users on the phone are yellow, and all others are green.

The web client is also an option.

Thanks @revilo951

I mentioned this options to the client but it is not convenient for them. Also, they've got Yealink T48 phones which can do pretty much anything and they want to use its features, not the computer, otherwise there's no point having a high quality phone if you're not going to use all the features.

Umm I swear the T48 shows a red icon for folks on DND. I'll have to check this out tomorrow if I haven't given all my T48's away.

Yeah that's what I thought too, but I just tested it an hour ago and they only go red if they're on another call.

Hmm.. I gave up my T48 a few updates ago but I thought it did. Maybe I'm just remembering what I see when I go DND.

Oops.. I forgot to test. Let me find a T48

See this thread. I am curious as to why the default template doesn't simply specify the DND on/off codes. DND has become a pretty serious issue for my client.

Thanks very much @VoIPster

So it may be a problem with the template? Here's the code I found in the template for Yealink T4X:

Code:
#######################################################################################
##                          DND                                                      ##

Looks like nothing is enabled and there's no code for DND. Has 3CX really messed this up or what?

I'm pretty confused about why things are the way they are as well. I have yet to test making the template changes and testing it with phones. My implementation includes Yealink T21P E2 and Cisco SPA303/504G phones. I assumed that the Yealink phones' DND BLF would work properly, as they are supposedly fully supported by 3CX, but they don't work either.

I'll have to spend some time testing but I don't really have time for that at the moment.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I didn't have time to test anything other than the stock config but the BLF definitely didn't change on the phone.

Possibly. Took a brief look at the template and it looks like it's using phone-based DND instead of system based DND which might explain your problem. If the front desk is monitoring the extension status at the PBX then phone-based DND typically wouldn't show up. But when I tested at the office and had my co-worked put his phone on DND it did show up in my 3CX client but not on my T48. That could be due to 3CX straying from the Yealink default for the DND refuse code as seen here:

Code:
#Configure the return code when activating DND; 404-No Found, 480-Temporarily not available (default), 486-Busy here;
#features.dnd_refuse_code = 480
features.dnd_refuse_code = 486

But my co-worker also likes to play with his phone so it's possible he does have the DND codes in his phone. It also might be a firmware issue as I don't think his phone was current so it was a rather poor test.

I'll dig into it more tomorrow

Thanks mate. I'd be testing it too but I'm currently on a roof in rural Tasmania getting people connected to all of the internets!

Nice. You use Ubiquiti products by any chance?
