I have an old fax machine that is still needed and i have bought a HT812 which i've been told works with 3cx but, not without some hard work! Does anyone have any ideas other than "its not support" or "fax is dead".
The current setup is hosted 3cx in our Datacenter, Site to site VPN from local to DC. PBX is at 15.5 sp5.
Has anyone manually configured a similar HT?
Also, does anyone have any other ATA working with 3cx? Can you recommend, the UK doesn't really have the supported Gateways on sale, they seem to be really outdated :/
Although i cannot assist with manual configuration of these devices i can tell you that these devices are currently under testing by our testing department. Once the tests are done a template will be included in the PBX which you will be able to use to configure the device. A guide will also accompany the template to help with the configuration. ETA is unknown currently.
It was mentioned in another string that some (I cannot confirm which) of the Grandstream gateways and devices should be included in SP6 which is not long off.
This is for the 701 but should not be much different.
FYI for the FAX server with 3CX it can only be used locally or across a locally routed VPN (you are doing this so good).
For FAX instead of setting up a standard extension you will need to setup a FAX extension in 3CX, you will also need to choose (and this is normally based on ITSP support) whether you are going to use T.38 FAX or G711 Pass-through.
If supported I recommend T.38 as it offers better packet loss issues than G.711 and is less bandwidth hungry.
Very strange... so i've checked this morning and 3CX is now noticing that the grandstream is trying to connect, see screen shot.
I have setup the fax extension and not a regular ext - so im on the right track! I just can't get the ATA to register... :S
My voip provider supports t.38 and it works great for receiving faxes, if i dial the number i get a fax tone I'm just not sure where to go with this now.. brick wall! The fax machine is a hp printer, which plugs directly into the ATA via the rj11 cable and then from there into the LAN.
3CX by default will accept FAX but requires a Gateway or ATA to send it. 3CX includes a pre-configured fax extension (ext: 888). This extension is used by the 3CX Fax Server for incoming fax calls, which will then be routed to an email address.
The screenshot you have sent is simply the "phones" screen in 3CX and just displays what 3CX can see. Where is the HT device in regards to 3CX and it shoud not pickup devices across a VPN. See PnP Provisioning: https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/configuring-ip-phones/#h.x4oged39tp44
