Hello Everyone,
Our voip provider allows us to hide the outbound number using the default method that 3CX uses, so prepending *5 before the number that we need to call. It works perfectly fine if we try to do it manually from the 3CX Windows Client app. Our number shows up as private when we call someone.

Now we need to apply this permanently and we tried by adding *5 in the prepend field in the outbound rule but we can't make calls anymore if we do this.

Can anyone suggest us how to do this from the 3CX? Always show our number in outbound as private?

Kind Regards,
Ermal

Does you provider allow another code, that doesn'tt require a leading asterisk (all numeric), that could then be prefixed to all calls?

I am not controlling this on the provider side. I am trying to control this on the 3CX side independently from the provider. My question here is, how do I make a SIP Trunk in 3CX always go out with an anonymous/private caller id, independently whether the provider accepts it or not.

Because this limitation is on the 3CX Side.

If I manually do from my 3cx windows client the following:

*5XXXXXXXXXX Where XXXXXXXXXX is my cellphone number, 3CX knows that should strip the *5 and it does and I receive the anonymous call.

But it is not stripping or interpreting the *5 when it is prepended in the outbound rule, it is just letting it go through.

If you are simply adding *5 as a prepend, in the outbound rules, and expect it to block the number, then that would be a function of the provider, if they accept the number with the prefix. Many providers will accept the "normal" code to block Caller ID, as accepted, in your particular country. This will of course vary, and it may be that they do not accept any prefix at all. Ask them what code would be dialled to block CID, if a customer simply had a set registered to them.

You could change the From:User Part in the Outbound Parameters of your SIP trunk to custom value and leave it blank maybe?

*5 is s PBX dialcode that instructs the system to block the outbound caller id BEFORE the call is sent to the trunk.

By prepending it, you are sending it AFTER it leaves the PBX and goes to the trunk so the call fails (the provider does not know what a *5 is and rejects the whole call). You can prepend your provider's dial code though if they have one and that would work fine.

Or perhaps if your sip provider offer you a console manager for your trunk settings, may be you can hide outbound numbers directly from there.
For sure if not, then PBX side is only way.

Thank you everyone for the replies.
I will ask the provider, but in case the provider doesn't have a specific code, is there a way to hide the caller id for a specific sip trunk, on 3cx side?

I mean, if the caller id is hidden before it goes to the sip trunk when I use *5 before the called number, is there a way to make this permanent from the 3cx side, only for that specific trunk?

Thank you

Sure.. find out what field your provider is looking for CID in and ask them what you can put in there to make it show as hidden.
