Polycom VVX 600 dials *30 and instantly restarts (2)

This is a follow-up on the thread below, because I need one more clarification, please:

Now, the link below mentions some limitations regarding the interop of Polycom devices and 3cx:

Do those limitations, and specifically the Speed Dial and Shared Parking limitations apply for Polycoms in the LAN, as well?
Because in the beginning of the article, it is mentioned that "these phones can not be used from a remote location or in combination with a 3CX in the cloud"

Also, the embedded Polycom templates in v.15 seem to support those features, no?

I have some installs with polycom vvx 300, 400 and 500's and have found that most of my problems are from custom templates left over from old 3cx installs.

look in the dashboard > phones and if the phone extensions are red you are using an old custom template.

you should be using fw version 5.6.0.17325, not using option 66 in your dhcp server and have not downloaded the support files and placed them in the 3cx provisioning folder for the phones to download the compatible fw will make things alot harder in the long run.

It seems that when an endpoint is in red font under Dashboard-->Phones, it just means that a custom template is used, not necessarily an old custom template, which is not always bad:

My question here is:
Do the limitation of Polycom endpoints apply only in the cloud?
Or do they apply in the LAN as well?

Please note that these phones are now supported for SBC provisioning but the limitations apply for local phones as well.

@3cxnub, if you feel like discussing about the issues that you have met while deploying Polycoms with 3cx, I would be more than curious to know.

We are actually using DHCP Option 66 for the provisioning path, we are using FW version 5.6.0.17325 and have placed it in 3cx provisioning folder. Any other suggestions?

Sounds like you are doing it all the way I am.


The only suggestion I have is
1. factory resetting every phone with issues.
2. set a fake extension number to every shared parking.

sp0 = 2222
sp1 = 2223
sp2 = 2224
sp3 = 2225

that way when/if the shortcut keys do not work you can just dial the fake extension numbers to park and unpark calls.

to park a call you transfer blind to ext 2222, this will park the call.
to pickup a call you just dial ext 2222.

this could have some unintended/unforeseen consequences like more than one person sending calls to that ext number, external calls being connected to each other, but on small systems this is not common.

@YiannisH_3CX, can you clarify something. What specifically is the limitation on shared parking with polycom? I'm missing what technical issue there is, or is it just a provisioning issue? For example, if I manually provision a VVX to have SP1 as automata, is that something that definitely will not work? In short, is this some weird thing polycom does on a BLF?

I should mention here that I'm aware than polycom doesn't handle sending to a parking lot via the same button as the BLF...

On asterisk, I would have a dedicated button to park (ie, dial *0) and then BLFs to monitor the parking lots. I could put this in a custom template pretty easily.

@YiannisH_3CX i would love to know the answer to dandenson's question, too. In fact, we have been using shared parking with our VVX 400 and 600 Polycoms for a long time, as well, and were a bit surprised to hear that it is not supported.

Please note that these phones were tested and this functionality was not performing as reliably as we wanted it.
