RPI 4 SBC | 4GB RAM

Hi there,

We have just brought our first SBC which is a Raspberry Pi 4 with 4GB of RAM, 1.5GHz 64 bit processor (quad core). Please could someone tell me how many extension I am able to run? I have looked at the official site, and it said the RPI can have up to 30 extensions but I believe this is the older RPIs.

Pi 4 runs Raspian/Debian10 and doesn’t support Raspian/Debian 9 or less. 3CX currently only supports 9. Raspberry Pi 3 supports 9 and 10. Support for 10 is in the 3CX roadmap.

Would love to start working with this! For a small office, I am looking to implement 3cx on Raspberry Pi 4. Combined with the resource improvements in this release, that looks like a killer appliance with 3cx for small offices. Low energy and good performance.

3CX on Pi4 would be quite an attractive option for smaller clients who don't have the budget for cloud hosting or a dedicated SFF PC with SSD. They can purchase two of them and keep one ready as a spare.

Debian with 4GB RAM can run 8SC 3CX system quite easily. The potential issues I'm guessing would be the sd card. But perhaps we can attach a USB3 SSD to it for recordings and maybe logs which was the biggest weakness for Pi3.

I have seen various implementations of that configuration. There is even a case that can house both. But 3cx needs to support it as well off course.

Not set in stone, we will not known the full details until 3CX has tested it,

With Update 6 we make 3CX easier and cheaper to run in the cloud. We will update it to the latest Debian, make it run on low-cost Raspberry 4 devices and most importantly we have fine-tuned 3CX to use less memory and support more extensions and clients. That means less memory usage in cloud instances and the ability to scale to 50 extensions on Raspberry Pi4 (which has 2 GIG Ram and a better processor).

You are absolutely correct but you seemed to be unaware of that page otherwise you wouldn't have asked that question since if the Pi 3B+ which is on that page is listed to support up to 16 extensions/8 simultaneous calls then surely the Pi 4 which is an improved model would also support 8 'lines' as you ask, whether lines = extensions or simultaneous calls.

They just released a Pi4 with 8GB RAM now. $30 (Canadian) more than the 4GB model.

There is a standard firmware version now, that supports booting from M2 SSD, after installing the OS the first time. I assume that will help the recording too? Or is that CPU bound?

I can tell you that using an RPi 4 for SBC works just fine, running on Raspian Buster. I have been using one for our NFR system since August of last year, no issues at all. We are running 12 sets with 10 BLF buttons each, and we haven't had any issues at all. We also have quite a few customers on RPi 4 2GB for SBC, largest location is running 30 ext behind SBC, reception has 30 BLF, rest all have 8 BLF (262 BLF), and it hardly touches it. I'd estimate that an RPi 4 4GB can likely handle quite a bit more...

Bear in mind that I am talking about using the RPi 4 for SBC, not PBX.

The RPi 4 for PBX also works fine. I installed 3CX v16.5 on the 2GB. No idea what the max number of sim calls is, we do no have enough employees to test that
3CX is the ideal product for a small office to be reachable everywhere. These days i talk to so many people that work from home and they can't even connect a call to their colleagues! They should be using 3CX just for that.

I know there is no support on this, but I assume 16.6 will make it supported again in a few months.
