SBC needs ntp.service ?

Dear Community,

I installed ntp on my 3CX PBX following this link: https://www.3cx.com/docs/installing-microsoft-hyper-v/
Should I install ntp on my SBC as well?
The two systems have a different date. Could this lead to issues?

root@3cx:~# date
Wed Oct 16 11:14:18 CEST 2019

pi@3cx-sbc-1:~ $ date
Wed Oct 16 09:14:18 UTC 2019

If you have the SBC on a Hyper-V VM then yes. That being said, it certainly won't hurt if you install it, so go ahead if you want.

Note: NTP is mainly used to avoid time drift on unstable clocks or Virtualized environments.

The underlying clocks are the same actually -- the systems are just defaulted to different time zones -- CEST vs. UTC.

If the time would drift then the one place that I can think of that could cause issues is SSL/TLS Handshake as CRYPTO subroutines use time.

You're right @epodworksnet, only the timezone is different.
So I changed the timezone on my SBC from UTC to CEST.

pi@3cx-sbc-1:~ $ sudo ln -fs /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Zurich /etc/localtime
pi@3cx-sbc-1:~ $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure -f noninteractive tzdata

Current default time zone: 'Europe/Zurich'
Local time is now:      Wed Oct 16 12:14:56 CEST 2019.
Universal Time is now:  Wed Oct 16 10:14:56 UTC 2019.

Wed Oct 16 12:15:07 CEST 2019
