We are planning a 25 phone install, and will be running it in the cloud. If the local PC that hosts the SBC connection is offline, are all the phones down?

Would stun provide better up time?

Thanks

Chaz

If the SBC is down, the phones will be down. STUN (done properly) is a management nightmare as you'd have to open a unique SIP port + 10-12 unique RTP ports per phone in the firewall. Put in a SBC, and if you are worried about downtime, have a second one there for backup. Can put in two and have half the phones on one and half the phones on the other. Or do a VPN. Friends don't let friends do STUN.

Thanks. Any issues with the customer having to keep a pc up for the sbc? This particular customer will not have a server for the SBC.

Go Raspberry Pi so that the PC user doesn't impact the phones. Get a full spare Pi (including SD Card) that you duplicate the settings on if you are concerned about failure. Super cheap solution.

And the rasberry is just used to install the SBC on correct? We've had no issues on our premise based 3CX, but this customer wants the cloud version. And of course they do want any voice quality issues.

Thanks,

Thanks. I am going to bring one in

Have you checked before planning cloud use , that there's no limitations on phones used to be connected behind SBC and you don't loose any feature or cert problems etc..... also compatibility with DECT base and handset if any ?

Good point. We are looking for feedback on Cloud vs On Premise. I like our on premise install. So far we haven't had any issues. Is there a limitation on number of phones in the cloud?, And what about voice quality?

Thanks

First question is why do you want to move on cloud?

Cloud induce no limitation on phone number, you just need to use a VM with enough ressources as designed by 3cx the same for on premise, limitation can be from your internet link (bandwith available in FD ) this is crucial point for all, voice quality of course.

One Advantage on cloud, if you have no power on your location you can have PBX still working on cloud and be able to call and be reachable from App, so your company can job near as usual.

the cloud install will work even if the customer's premises are out of internet and power.

they can just launch the mobile app over LTE and continue to work, so it has its benefits.

it can also scale if the customer's needs change, thats easy to do.

the on premise machine can work fine too, but will need to be maintained and will rely on the building's power and internet access.

depending on what machine you need, it may be a better solution than buying a server. cloud services are paid on a monthly basis so the upfront cost is lower than buying a machine, plus UPS, plus backup solution.
